Cloudy and cool for the Riverlands 100 race. Set to pace Billy and Jasmine for their final 40 miles. Got the parking lot around six and hung out with Bob, Pam and Steph Nicols watching runners come and go. Started getting ready around 7:30. Steve Lapointe showed up and got ready to pace Jasmine in case she wasn't going to stick with Billy.

Glen Gordon came down too to cheer us on. The temperature had dropped and the wind was blowing a little. Wore tights, a short sleeve tech T, a long sleeve tech T, and warm hat. Packed my gloves in my nathan pack. Billy and Jasmine arrived just before 8:00. Got them ready on a quick turn around and we were off. Steve L. decided he didn't want to pace the last loop and I told him I could do it. They were glad to see me. Got a feel for the pace they were running as we ran to the single track entrance. They wanted me to lead and we turned our headlamps on. Jasmine had a belt light which was really bright. I set a pace I thought they could handle. Soon Sam Heye from Freeport joined us. He had met up with them on the 3rd lap. So our little train pressed on. The peepers were really loud and we heard some loons out on the river. Once in awhile a peeper would peep when you were right next to it and jumped you. We finished the singletrack with no problems and got back on the main trail headed for the midpoint aid station. We walked the hills but I made sure we started to run again on all the flats. I was getting hot so I took off my hat. When we got the aid station I took off my short sleeve shirt and put it in the bag I had put in Billy's drop bag. Grabbed some food, mtn. dew, and water and we were off. The hills on the way to the turn around at Conant road were tough and they were starting to really feel it especially the downhills. Seeing the headlamps of other runners coming at us in the dark was pretty neat. There was a brook crossing a ways before the turn around and Jasmine was nervous about jumping it, but she made it no problem. Got to the aid station and had some food and drink. They had some hot buttersquash soup which they really liked. On the way back they were really feeling it and we did a lot more walking. The toughest part was stopping to pee and then running to catch up with the group. I peed quite a lot which was good because I normally don't on long runs. Just a couple miles after the turn around Billy said we must be almost to the single track right? This made me a little nervous, but I told him no we hadn't even gotten to the mid point aid station. Then he realized where he was and was ok after that. My hands were starting to get cold, so I put on my gloves. We got back to the middle aid station, they had more soup and I had more food and drink. They spirits were still good. Billy's left leg was starting to bother him and Sam's calf was knotted up. He couldn't bend his leg and kind of hobbled along. He ran well though when he needed to catch up. We ran back towards the singletrack and the conversations were getting less. We went slower on the singletrack this time back but still ran some of it. Got back out to the main trail with no problems and headed for the parking lot. I picked up the pace and ran ahead to let Bob know they were coming. Once they arrived Bob hustled around gathering their stuff while they got food at the aid station. I was getting chafed so I lubed up with some more vaseline. Changed my shirt with two new ones. While I was changing my socks. Billy sat down he was really dizzy and felt nauseous. Val and Mindy came to check on him. He had some more coke and soon felt better. We took some time to make sure he was good. Bob said the rain was supposed to start around 4:00 am. I took my rain coat and tied it around my waist. Then we were off with one of Jasmine's "Let's get this shit done!".
