Notes

Sunny, very warm, not humid, 78 deg. Bob was off today clearing the trails on Black Mountain for the race on Sunday. Got my new Saucony Breakthru’s yesterday and wanted to get a couple runs in them before the 5K race on Saturday.

Decided to do a modified Black Bridge loop. Ran along the river and through Hosmer on the trail, then popped out on Hancock street and headed for Black Bridge. Saw Mike Davis running the opposite direction by the second entrance to the high school. Started to pick the pace up at the end of the first mile. Could tell right away I have not been training for speed or on the road. Felt like a lot of work. Worked on running negative splits until I got to the Mexico Rec park. Didn’t feel as bad once I crossed Black bridge. Hit the five mile mark at the back of the softball fields and stopped for a break. I was pretty hot and winded. Started out again slow on the Honda path and began picking it up again in the second field. Ran the far side of the field and across the brook. Went hard up the hill to the first field and continued to run hard all the way back. Ended up running pretty much 10K race pace the last mile or so. Pretty gassed by the time I got back to the mill. Good training run and the new shoes felt good. Nice fall day, but felt like summer.
