Warm and humid, preview of the Bradbury Breaker course with Bob, Glenn, and Debbie. I got to the Brad at 6:20 and decided I had enough time to run a mile out and back before the others showed up. Ran out to the boundary trail and stayed on that until I hit 1 mile, right at a bridge. Turned around to head back going a little faster since I was warmed up. I was already kinda hot and my tank top was soaked. Got back to the parking lot and the others had just got there. My watch showed only 1.9 miles, so I had to loop around the parking lot to get to 2. Had some water and toweled off a little then we headed out. Pace was a bit fast and I fell behind at times. Felt ok though. Hiked some of the steeper stuff. Came down fairly hard to the parking lot, then a slow run up to the aid station area. Hiked up to the summit at a pretty steady pace and was pretty gassed at the top. It was getting hot in the sun and we didn’t stick around long. Headed down and looped around back to the summit and again ran fairly hard down to the end of the first lap. We stopped briefly and I got out a stinger waffle and ate that as we started the second lap. I fell behind a bit, running slow and eating. I eventually caught up and ran behind Deb for most of the loop, I think she slowed down some. Ran down the first descent faster than the first loop. Hiked back up to the summit at about the same speed. Looped around for the final climb. Heading down the Terrace trail, Bob and Glenn went left at the Y and I knew we should have gone right. We ended up at the Northern Summit, so we did a penalty loop back around to the summit and started down again. Glenn and Bob were out of sight in a flash and I was running ahead of Deb going about as fast as I dared. We got to the bottom and stopped to let a biker go by. We ran fairly easy back along the trail and finished through the field. As I was coming back into the parking lot, I heard someone yelling my name. It was Val who had just arrived to run with her brother who was here from Colorado. Talking to her for a bit and also one of the TMR Tammy’s who had just finished a run with a group of people. Debbie took off and Glenn had about a half hour to run, so we went over to the other side to run a couple miles. I added a bottle of water to my pack and grabbed a half of PBJ. We went down the Link trail to the snowmobile trail. Ran that out then turned onto the Fox East trail. I was feeling the miles and dropped behind a bit, plus it was starting to get hot. Once back out to the snowmobile trail we turned left and ran down to the Knights Woods intersection. We took a left at the junction and ran up the trail we come down for the Scuffle. I always thought we came down Knights Woods, but we don’t. I took the lead on this trail and tried to keep the pace up. Once back across the road I needed another 2 tenths, so we went through the field and looped back around on the trail to the parking lot. 14 exactly. Good long training run with lots of climbing. I was drenched, it was really humid. I felt beat but nothing hurt, although my right knee has been a little bothersome since last Wednesday. Felt ok running though. I should be in about as good a shape as I can for the race next weekend, especially given how hot and humid it has been all of July.
