Notes

Beautiful warm day. Took the day off and headed down to the Riverlands to get in 10miles since the weekend is going to be rainy and we're on the road both days. Parking lot was mushy snow but also some mud and dirt. Put on my spikes and headed out. It was odd running in shorts and a short sleeve shirt with microspikes. Ran the Homestead trail to the picnic area. There was definitely less snow and ice than there was on Sunday. Kept going on Homestead and the running was pretty good. Went out the main trail and it was a mixed bag, some soft ice, some hard ice, some bare muddy trail. Hit 5 miles a short distance from the Bradford intersection. I kept going to the bridge and then turned around and got out a GU. Had that as I was coming back. My left hip was complaining some and I tried using my quad and calf more which seemed to help. Broke through the snow and went in pretty deep, fell to my knees and hands. It was slushy ice so no damage done. I ran all the hills and took Homestead back to the picnic area. Noticed some asshole stole the Baxter Outdoors sign on the cedar tree at the turn to the last section of trail. I decided to try the short cut trail back up to Porcupine and it was better than Sunday, although the last part at Porcupine was still pretty deep. Quite a bit of Porcupine was wet bare trail so I tried to stay on sides in the snow. When I got back to the parking area there were quite a few cars there. It was a good run and really warm. Probably the last time running in spikes in winter conditions. Could be the last time for awhile until the trails dry out.

Gear: shorts, short tech T, head band, microspikes, water pack
