Notes

Cloudy and cool. Bob came down and we went to the Riverlands to get in 10 miles or so. Met a couple Forest Rangers in the parking lot who were going to conduct some wildfire training, without actually starting a fire. They said another guy had taken off about 45 minutes before us for a run. We headed out the ATV trail and turned onto the unnamed single track. There was some stretches of snow, but mostly bare ground. We stopped quite a bit to to pick up sticks and branches along the trail. We got out to the Harrington Path and cleared a way around the 2 big blowdowns. I found a Christmas neckerchief by the first big blowdown. Picked it up to leave at the picnic table. We stopped on the last bit of singletrack and lifted up a foot log to let water drain out from above it. Then we stopped at the picnic table and the tiny pair of sneakers were gone, so I left the neckerchief. We ran out on the Homestead trail to the ATV trail. It was good running most of the way, with some snow. The ATV trail was pretty much covered with ice and snow, so we decided to stay in the woods. We went up the Ridge trail, then looped around to the Deer Path and took that out to the Bradford Loop. Had to stop a few times to figure out where the trail went, it was easy to loose it with snow. The Bradford loop was ice and snow from being packed down by the snow machines. We ran the whole loop, which wasn't as muddy and wet as I thought it was going to be. Once back out to the ATV we headed back to the intersection. We stopped there and I had a Honey stinger waffle. We thought it would be better to stay in the woods, so we climbed back up the Ridge trail, ran back to the Deer Path and took that all the way back to the Fox Run trail. There were quite a few stretches of snow. I caught my foot on a stick which was frozen in the snow and it sprung my foot backwards and I fell on my knees in the snow. Came up a little lame but ok once I got going again. We stopped at the bridge just before the Fox Run trail. My legs were getting tired from running through the sections of snow. We ran out Fox Run to the ATV trail then back onto the Homestead trail. Ran the Homestead all the way back to the parking lot, for just over 12 and half miles. Good training run, good workout for the legs. I was surprised how good the singletrack was. We saw Val's car in the parking lot. As we were leaving, Sam came running in. He had done 25 miles and was going to go back to make it a marathon. We talked to him for a bit and then headed out. Good run, nice to run with Bob instead of running by myself. My legs were tired, but I felt like a could have run longer. Hopefully, the coming rain will melt most of the snow before our group run next weekend.
