took a rather long break--rain and the return of unbearable heat and humidity after a period of blessed cool--but today conditions improved. north wind, less humid. got a late start so had to run in the sun. return ride was a strain. saw betty in flight but no john, ducks or geese. can't remember if there were cormorants. pretty good surf.
