Notes

Started watch a bit late - pushed the button where the start button is on my old watch...noticed about 25 seconds in. Actual chip time was 1:31:46. I took 9th out of 450+ females and 4th in my age group for women.

Thinking about the race this week, my goal was to get under 1:35. So, that meant averaging 7:18 for each mile. I figured I'd start around 7:30, then gradually work my way down to get faster and faster keeping in mind Brenden's advice that this whole thing isn't necessarily raced - we're not going at it for 13.1 miles. Great reminder.

Went a lot better than I hoped. My warm and cool down, I couldn't muster anything faster than 845 mile..but I guess when you tell me I'm in a race, pain just goes out the window. Once I got going I didn't notice the pain that I've been having in my leg - there was a faint soreness/tiredness, but nothing like the past week on my runs. One awesome thing about this race was that I passed a girl with .7 left in the race. I dont think I've ever passed anyone at the end of a race. I either hold my place or lose a couple. That was a crazy good feeling.

One annoying thing about this race - which probably cost be 20-30 seconds and a few extra places, is that I had to stop to tie my shoe THREE times. I guess that's part of the price for new shoes that you've never worn before (which, I loved!, minus the shoelace ordeal). Another annoying thing - I still cant figure out how to drink from the little dixie cups of water. I did ok once, but the next attempt was horrible and I resorted to just grabbing my water bottle from my Mom. Just so mutch easier.

Just so I remember for when I think back to what I ate and drank before/during - before the race I had bananan and a peanut butter cliff bar, powerade and coffee. About 30 min before I had a vespa jr. During I had water, and then powerade/water/gatorade sal packet mixture. I had my mom ready with a gel, but didn't want it or need it.
