Notes
Brazen Wildcat Half Marathon. This was a trail race with 2200 ft of elevation. I planned to treat it like a training run and not push too hard, but I didn't end up doing that. I ran it pretty hard, not quite all out, but harder than the 8:00 long runs we've been doing recently.
This race was especially tough because the downhill sections were very steep, and I was scared to go too fast on them. Also miles 11-13 had 4 short, steep hills that really threw you off your pace. There was a relatively flat section from 4-7 where I was cruising at tempo pace and felt great.
For nutrition, I took a salt pill at the first 3 water stops (of 4), and I drank water at all of them. I had one small cramp in my right calf right at the finish. I felt sick the rest of the day, though. I thought all the salt would protect me, but it didn't. Woke up with a cold, a sore throat and runny nose.
Finished 32nd overall in 2:07:19, 6th in my age group. Not bad. Derek finished 11th (!) and 3rd in his age group. Kevin was 2 places behind me in 2:10.
