Another crappy marathon for me. Had my usual leg cramps between miles 19 and 20 and walked a lot of the rest of the way.

My plan had been to go out with the 3:40 pace group and see how I felt at mile 20. I started behind the 3:40 group but felt good and passed them. I went through the half in 1:47:42 (so 3:35 pace) and felt OK. I was starting to tire a bit but I figured I could hold 8:10-8:20 pace the rest of the way. I started noticing cramping in the inside part of my hamstrings in both legs somewhere between miles 18 and 20. I tried slowing down but it didn't help.

I did take quite a bit of liquid, 2 salt pills, and 3 Gus during the race. I don't think this is nutritional. I think I'm predisposed to cramping during these long race, and so I need to reevaluate my training -- I should recreate the conditions that cause the cramps during my training. That means (1) don't take breaks during my long runs, and (2) run longer than 20 miles.
