Notes

Unfortunately, the race sponsors mis-measured the course by a lot. I took off fast and then eased into a pace after about .15. I hit the first mile marker at 4' flat (too bad it was only .68). My first mile was very steady at 6'41". The second mile showed up as a 6'45". Again I kept it steady and passed two people in front of me.

My last .32 was at 6'27" pace. Realizing that I was not going to get caught, I did not finish hard through the finish. So was this going to be my fastest mile of the race? Could I had held on to this pace for the remainder? Its hard to say and we'll never know.

Here's what we can say - At the jog into spring (March 27th) in Independence I hit a 21'03" (6'46" pace). Today, I finished at 6'41" pace and I felt like I could of held the pace. I guess I will have to do another 5K soon.

For what its worth, I got 1st place in the 30-34 year old age group. And I think I was either 3rd or 4th overall.

I also definitely felt better after today's race than after the 5K in Independence in March.

It felt good reeling people in as well. Overall, this was a strong effort and I think we now have a benchmark.
