Notes
The top 15 in the 5k qualify to race a mile in the evening, for $500. This brought out some fast competition as the winner of the 5k was just over 15:00, and I'm sure some of the top 15 weren't going all out. I ended up 5th, a few seconds behind 4th but well behind the top 3. I knew I wouldn't have a shot at winning the mile so I raced the 5k. My 16:32 was about what I expected based on recent VO2 max workouts.
The first mile had a long gradual downhill in it so was definitely the fastest mile of the three. Mile three had that same hill but going up, so was the slowest. 5:15 for the first mile felt controlled, but based on how I slowed after that likely was too fast.
