Notes
I wore my watch but planned to not look at it to see if I want to do that at Green Bay in 2 weeks. I started with a group of 5 (in 4th place). In mile 3 I got passed and the rest of the way the gap between myself and 3rd/4th kept growing. I ended up about a minute behind 4th. 1st was way ahead (1:05).
I thought I was in 1:10 to 1:11 shape so it was nice to confirm that. The first mile was way too fast (5:12!). By the 6th mile I was tired and struggling. At mile 7 I looked at my watch for the first time and was pleasantly surprised to see a 5:49 split for mile 7. I was worried I was cratering completely and would be over 6:00. I held it together in the 5:50s for the last half of the race and finished with a big PR. I think had I run 5:3x for the first two miles I likely could have run 5:4x for the last half and gotten under 1:10. My thought right now is to wear a watch at Green Bay to make sure I don't go too fast at the start.
I'm pleased with this effort. This week was a bit rough as I was very busy at work (XGM week) and we had the FUNdraiser on Friday night so Stella was consumed with preparation and a bit stressed all week.
Weather was pretty good - 50s and sunny with a little wind. I did dump water on myself at the aid stations to try to cool down.
