The top 15 of this morning's 5k got to race a mile for $1000.

The course was a 0.7 mile long loop. It started downhill with the wind, then the stretch along the finish straight was flat and against the wind, then an uphill back to the start and the downhill to the finish.

I had no illusion of winning this - the 5k winner ran close to 15 flat and another guy in the field had run 14 flat in college.

I started out fast but controlled. I was in 6th after a quarter mile as we passed the finish. At the end of the straightaway and up the hill I passed one guy but got passed by another. On the downhill in the last quarter I passed two guys and was sprinting all out to the finish.

Taking 4th was a surprise as I was 5th (going all out) in the 5k. Two of the top three didn't race the 5k hard as I beat them in the 5k.

I did not wear a watch and the race was not timed so my time is a guess based on 3rd place who said he ran 4:25.

Stella and Henry came to watch which was neat. Henry kept saying how proud he was of me.

After the race I ran into a coworker (Jason) who commented that I was clearly the oldest guy racing!
