The Hoyleton Hofbraufest 5K.
Ummm...so this went less than well, but, oh well.
I knew after the warmup that I wasn't feeling great, or sharp, or whatever. But, I still decided I could run 17 flat, and I was gonna do so.
The race was delayed 15 minutes, because, well...I dunno why. But, blah.
So...race starts, and after about 200 meters, 2 fast guys are winning, a girl is in front of me, and about 6 10 year olds are ahead of me. Never fails. By 800 meters or so, the lead woman fell back, the kids all faded, and I was in 7th, I think. But, I was running 5:27 pace at that point, so I just stayed put, relaxed, and decided to see how I felt at the mile. Went through the mile marker in 5:25, and had moved into 4th place. Felt better than expected, so I decided I'd give picking it up a try. Good for the next half mile...and then not so much after that. I still split 5:30 for mile 2, so i was technically on pace for 17 flat. However...I'd moved into 3rd, and was 20-25 seconds in front of 4th place, and the top 2 guys were pulling away from me. My legs started feeling heavy, my stomach wasn't feeling great...and, well...I had my $50 cash prize locked up...so I just kinda stopped caring. Ran a solid 5:51 last mile (yuck) and finished in 17:24. Oh well. Still won $50, and then won a $30 gift card to a meat market in a raffle. So...can't complain I guess.
