Notes

Wow. Incredibly tough race. But it was worth every step. Incredibly beautiful park and run, even when it was too scary to look away from the trail. Probably as close to SHT for technical running as anywhere I've been down here.

The race started and ended in the bottoms down by the river. Cold and windy at the start, but we warmed up okay once we got moving.

Started towards the front, but tried to get out very slowly and let the real trail runners take over. Took a few steps before some of them did. Almost immediately into a serious climb. I faded a few places to where I'd generally finish. After that it was five really big climbs and just trying to enjoy the scenery on the run.

Got passed by one person at the water stop and then ended up running with him for a while, but he was a lot stronger on the last two climbs.

Best part of the whole race was that I came up on a much slower runner (he might have been doing the 50K) on the second to last descent. I started to pass him and then held up. He got into a rhythm going down the hill and I just followed his lead all the way down. Not sure I could have gone any faster on my own. Said something to him ad the bottom and he admitted that he just fell into that tempo and that it was really fun to descend like that with me behind him.

All in all a fun race and one I'd do again in a heartbeat.

Push some today but also hold back a bit at the same time. Enjoy the race! Today would be the long run of the week.
