Did I just simply not push hard enough at the end? (Read 580 times)

    Hey all,

Take a look at this 25K race I did yesterday:

If you look at my HR, it started to go down instead of up for the last 5 miles.  I felt like I was fading and pushing hard to the finish, but my HR tells a different story.  This was a disappointing race for me.  I was hoping to break 2 hours (7:44 pace) and I thought that was a very doable goal based on my fitness level.

I'm not sure what to think about the race itself and whether my training is making sense (mostly Low hr build up from 20 mile weeks this summer to just under 40 mile weeks with almost no quality work).

I'm looking to continue to build a base and then try to do a 5k at the end of November. Looking for sub 20.

Would love to hear what you folks think.

    2015 Goal:For now, keep running!

I've had the heart rate dropping thing at the end of marathons. In my case it's not through lack of effort - but my legs had just stopped working properly, so I couldn't move them enough to keep the HR up. If the subjective effort feels high at the end then I guess it's some combination of going too fast for what you're capable of on the day, and just running out of fuel.

As far as the 5k  goes - it's short enough that you can do them pretty often at full effort. If you can find the races nearby do plenty... establish a benchmark and then keep trying to improve it.

        I'd probably start there.
