I love going to the movies...pre-kid we probably saw at least 2 films in the theater every month. Now we are lucky to see more than a handfull ever year, so we tend to really hold out for the big ones. Last night we finally saw "Casino Royale," the lastest James Bond film...wow. It's outstanding. I love James Bond movies, but this blows the rest away. It reminded me a lot of the Jasone Bourne films, which I also can't get enough of (there were rumors that Matt Damon would be making a 3rd--I hope that's true). CR was a fantastic pre-quel to the series and explains so much of what makes James tick, particularly with his attitudes towards women. I liked that it was much more character-driven and not so much about the gadgets or flash. A very physical James Bond, much like Jason Bourne. And now I see what the hubub about Daniel Craig was all about...*fans self* I didn't think I would like a blonde Bond, but he was perfect for the role. What movies have you all enjoyed recently? I saw a preview for a new psychological thriller with Jim Carrey. It looks great...I really love him in more dramatic roles. I am also looking forward to "Miss Potter" with Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger, as they are two of my very favorite actors (and I have a MAJOR crush on Ewan...love that accent and the boy can sing, too). k

"Borat" was a funny movie. You seem to have a demented sense of humor, I think you'd like it. "The Good Shepherd" looks interesting & I've heard good things about "Apocalypto". I don't see a lot of movies either. It's hard for my wife, daughter, & I to reach a consensus on what movies to see. I think the last movie we saw before "Borat" was "The Devil Wears Prada." I don't get to see a lot of guy movies unless I go solo. My wife might want to go to "Casino Royale" however.

I think your wife would like CR...it's a lot deeper than most Bond films. The romantic plot is very well done and tragic. It's definitely more of a "chick flick" than any earlier Bond film. I can't wait for Borat to come out on DVD. I still need to see the Jackass sequel, too...I heard it was better than the original, and I loved that (yeah, I am very warped). I'd like to see Apocalypto, too. I was one class shy of a minor in Anthro. and the ancient Mayans always fascinated me (I was really bummed when a Meso-American class I had registered for was cancelled for lack of interest). I'm still not sure I want to support Mel, though. He is an A-1 director (and the BEST Hamlet ever), but he is also an A-1 A-hole.... The Good Shepherd is not doing so well on Rottentomatoes.com, so we will probably wait for video for that one. Children of Men sounds interesting...I like those futuristic, creepy, "Brave New World" sort of films. And 300 looks really good. I loved Sin City and 300 looks like it will be even more graphic and dark. But I'm already tiring of DH hollering "Spartans, tonite we dine in Hell!"

Zoomy - I am dying to see CR. Even my Mum who doesn't really like Bond films has been to see it twice! We rarely get to the movies due to having the kids. We actually watch at least one film every day though and collect movies (we have hundreds of DVDs). Because we so rarely get to the cinema we had a projector home cinema installed in our house so now we get to go to the movies every night! Films are my other passion. I hang out here and my husband is to be found in home cinema forums, discussing his kit Tongue

I also can't wait to see the Borat movie. That character is so funny. Guess we will probably wait for that one to come out on DVD too though. Sigh. Modified to say that Sin City rocked. Loving that film. Definitely in my top 50! Claire xxx

I liked "Jackass" a lot too. I was half thinking of renting it at Blockbuster. I think my daughter might like it. I made my parents watch it. I got a perverse pleasure watching my retired kindergarten teacher-mother struggle not to laugh out loud. My wife's tastes are more conventional than mine. After taking her to "Borat" she's decided I'm not suitable to pick movies for our 14 year old daughter. Another runner I know is a Meso-american art major & struggled with going to "Apocalypto" too. She did see it & liked it very much. I wish Gibson would shut up, not drive, & just stick to making movies. He's rapidly approaching Woody Allen territory. BTW, I did see they were making another Bourne movie. Those are good flicks. I might've considered renting them from Blockbuster tonight but, due to your timely reminder of Festivus I'm going to be too busy. My parents & one of my brother's coming over for dinner & after the Airing of Grievances I'll be taking on all comers in the Feats of Strength. The old man might be 75 but, he's going down!

Damn, gurl...I'll bet if we were neighbors we'd be inseparable! I'd be at your house watching movies every day! Big grin

Seriously, I think a space for a great home theater set-up will be a requirement for our next home. I would love a basement family room where we could install an amazing surround sound system. Pete, my son is not even 6, but already has pretty advanced tastes in movies. He has been watching the Spider-Man series since he was 3 and loves anything superhero, including Hellboy. Kid is going to be seriously warped, methinks. I think we will hold off on allowing him to watch Borat and Jackass until he is old enough to understand that repeating movie dialog is verboten at school. Wink

I just loved "The Fastest Indian". Not a new one but we never go to the movies (darn kids), so there you have it..unless you call "Happy Feet" and "Shaggy Dog" movies. I want to see CR and The Good Shephard but will have to wait for the Netflix release

I finally watched "Borat" this weekend as well. I haven't laughed that hard in years. Ok, I take that back -- I haven't laughed that hard since I watched "Talladega Nights." I also thought some of the deleted scenes were pretty excellent, too. And the fact that he did all of his promotion/public appearances to support the movie as Borat kills me (Borat on "Leno" alongside Martha Stewart was awesome).

When you're on your deathbed, you won't be wishing that you'd spent more time at the office. But you will be wishing that you'd spent more time running. Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.

Just watch "The Departed" excellent movie, great cast definitely two thumbs up. saw "Little Miss Sunshine" the other week - good and some funny parts but was expecting better for all the talk it got and the oscar alan arkin received for it.

Watched Bable, over the weekend. Still wondering why I sat through it. As my wife said, not since Thelma and Louise has she seen a worse movie.

i was hugely let down by Babel too...i don't know what i was expecting from it, but whatever it was, i definitely didn't find it in the movie. Tried watching it twice and never made it more than halfway through. Dead

just got Stranger than Fiction in the mail the other day...looking forward to that one. Blood Diamond comes out on dvd tomorrow- that's another that i want to see. I'd like to make it out to the theatre soon to see Black Snake Moan....that looks really interesting!
