Racing with a camera (Read 939 times)

Good Bad & The Monkey

It makes race reports easier.  I am still too tired to write anything cogent or witty. I had a good time, despite nearly sitting down at mile 21 to wait for a helicopter to come and pick me up. The route is a 33k loop followed by a 17k loop. The 17k loop is nested within the 33k loop, so you hit many the major hills twice, with the tallest (not the worst) climb right at mile 26. The worst climb, of course, you hit twice, around mile 18 and mile 29.

We first hit the trail, winding through the hills. We had already climbed several hundred feet at this point. Up, down, up, down.

Turning around, looking back toward the start

Looking down on the ocean from the Coastal Trail

The Coastal Trail (on the second loop) winding through the hills and coves

A poor pic of a painful climb, straight up from Pirate's Cove

Looking back down from the stairs to Pirate's Cove

A bit later, this fence is maybe to keep me from falling?

They are serious about keeping me from falling

Eventually and with great effort you climb high enough that the protection from falling matters

Headed towards the Tennessee Valley aid station from the coast

Up from the aid station on the Marincello Road

Looking down down down onto Sausalito

Another shot down to the bay.

Looking back down the hill I just climbed

And then, finally up, it is back down towards Bonito Cove. Eventually.

A view coming over the ridge, about mile 7

A view of the city from the second aid station

    Who is this goofball?

Another pic back at the city

    The Rodeo lagoon

    And then back up

Coming down the tallest hill, about mile 27

This is the tallest climb on the course, up Fox Road. 20% grade. For over a mile.

    Finally up to the top

What goes up must go down

    Another view along the coast

    Coming into the finish

After the run, with a delicious Coke

You look strong at the finish--yay!

Damn, that is a gorgeous part of the world...I want to live there.  Blue sky, no clouds...lovely.  How are you feeling now?

Getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to

Amazingly beautiful.  And based on the hair, it looks like you're flying into the finish.

Race reports with pictures are the best!

            Thanks, Trent

Cool pics - thank for sharing.
“I used to be a runner. Uh-huh. Not a marathoner. A runner. Marathons are bullshit. They’re all hype. Some official picks a random day, and rain or cold, you’re out there pounding the pavement alongside 50,000 other dumbfucks. No. There’s some things it’s better to do all by yourself.” Augustus Hill, Oz

              You'll ruin your knees!

Nice job!   Well placed use of "cogent"...

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

                  One day at a time

That's just incredible!  I didn't even know there were races like that.  Wow.

How'd you get the finish shot? Reenactment? Handed camera to spectator and asked them to race ahead and shoot back?

Oh no! is this like the biggest loser?  Trent was actually bussed to the finish, or perhaps helicoptered?  or the finish was filmed before the start to take advantage of better lighting?  The 'hills' were only the result of clever camera angles?  Do we have a scandal brewing?

Gorgeous pictures! You appear to be finishing strong. Nice work! How are you feeling now?

Imagine running that stuff in the dark.  No thank you, sir.
