Same thing happened when I was pg with my youngest son, for some reason anything dairy made me nauseous so for 9 months, no dairy. After he was born, even a tiny bit of dairy made me miserable with gas and bloating. The digestive bacteria that is in our system to digest and breakdown dairy had long since stopped being fed and died, so my body had no idea how to digest the lactase in it. I had effectively made myself lactose intolerant! I read up on it(because life without ice cream or cream cheese just isn't worth living!) and there are bacteria pills that have the cultures like yogurt has naturally that reintroduce the bacteria your gut needs to process the lactase. It took about 6 months before my system could digest dairy like it had before my pg.
FYI, lactose intolerance is NOT an allergy, it is the result of the human body no longer making the lactase ENZYME, which is required to properly digest lactose/milk sugar. It's very common for humans to no longer tolerate dairy well...because we didn't evolve to ingest milk beyond childhood, so there was no reason for our bodies to keep creating the lactase enzyme. Lactaid pills contain the lactase enzyme, not bacteria. The reason we lactose intolerant folks can still eat yogurt (and frequently cheese) is that the cultures that make milk into yogurt eat lactose sugar...so no need for lactase in our bodies to ingest it without trouble.

And if anyone shouldn't run into issues digesting milk it's me...a card-carrying, Wisconsin born and raised cheese-lover. But about 7 years ago drinking straight-up milk would give me nasty gastric issues. I can still guzzle milk as long as it's lactose-free or I take an enzyme pill. Yogurt...I can eat that shit like it's going out of style with nary a toot. Kefir...I can slug a quart of that right from the bottle.

Right. I am just saying that wheat "allergies" may also very well not be allergies in every case. Reactions can vary for many reasons and we can't just blame one thing or another, and it might even be something that we, ourselves, are doing. Could be the wheat, the chemicals in the food product, the digestion system we have, etc that may impact someone's tolerance or ability to digest or be around certain things. And I think avoidance completely can made a sensitivity, worse.
I don't think eliminating is necessarily the correct answer.

You need to market tech shirts that have this slogan on the back.
I'd wear it!

In the case of lactose intolerance -- eating lactose-containing foods after the body has naturally stopped making lactase will not change the end result. Without means of removing lactase from the foods or ingesting lactase enzyme in pill form elimination IS the correct answer...unless you like gastric Hell.
Well, whatever works, right? You gotta do what you gotta do.
Hell, yes it was, but it was alterable and corrected in my case. I don't rely on pills now and can digest dairy just fine.
Cats and hay, I still can't digest

I love wheat. Bread. Tortillas. Wheat beer from time to time. I never buy into any of the fads that come along and claim that food X (whatever the current trend is about) is the devil.

Tortillas are made of corn, aren't they? Or are you Talking about the flour tortillas used for burritos?
You can get them made from wheat. My wife does.
The flour tortillas are wheat. The crispy deep fried taco shells are corn.
Taco shells are not tortillas and they are not Mexican food! They are taco hell's effort to popularize Fake-Mex!
There are both flour and corn soft tortillas. Corn does not necessarily = fried crispy taco shell.
I would assume that flour tortillas are just made with white flour, and thus have wheat.
I like both

You can get corn tortillas that are not fried. That is actually more authentic. They are better for you anyway. Unless you think corn is evil. Which paleo does.

I'm new here, relatively! Hi!
I did notice that when I gave up all wheat products, I got super lean...but I also had to pretty much give up all high glycemic carbohydrate, including rice etc. and cut calories to get there. Going just gluten-free did nothing for me in terms of body composition or running skill. Although I have read Wheat Belly and think there is definitely something to be said about ancient vs. modern grains (just like ancient forms of animal husbandry and meat production vs. today's hormone-laden, filthy CAFO style slaughter operations), just eschewing wheat itself isn't going to make that big of a difference, in my opinion and experience.
