Holy smokes! I see her locally regularly doing motivational talks and appearance at events. She sure was a sweet girl! I guess she was giving out a lot of "sweets" too!

My goodness, Tchuck; you didn't have to spread the news any further like some other message board. She's a sweet girl, yes. I got to know her during Atlanta Olympics. Whatever triggered her to turn this way; just cut her some slack. Don't be like a paparazzi...

Cut her slack? She admits that her spouse was against her side job, she is a mother, and she often took these jobs on Disney's and other organization's travel dime. Were she single and childless this would be a very different scenario.

Also, prostitution is illegal in Vegas.

This is a story that is worth sharing and discussing. There is more there than the prostitution stuff. She is a wife and mother. She is a role model. She is an athlete, and yes, a celebrity, and used that fame for good and for bad. I really feel for her child.
TRUST THE PROCESS
I wish I could make $600/hr sleeping with people... yowza!
It is also illegal in Houston and other places she apparently did some business.
I had not heard that she traveled on Disney's dime.

I'm from Wisconsin. A lot of the distance running culture worshipped her. She has this awesome plaque up on this UW Hall of Fame Wall that I like to look at every time I visit Madison with all her ridiculous running records.
It's too bad. She was kind of a role model for my wife when she ran in HS and College. Sigh...
Distinctively Juvenile
She arranged some of her "tours" so that they would coincide with her paid celebrity engagements.

Seems like she probably did a lot of surprising things that the general public hadn't heard about.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
Feeling the growl again
I was very disappointed to hear of this (it's already all over the news, I doubt this thread contributed to it). Most of all I feel badly for her family and her child.

That's just the date, before tip. Well, you don't give a girl like that a small tip.

I've never heard of her until just now. What a great and long name she has. I hope Mrs. Shocker works things out with whomever she needs to privately (if she indeed has to) and doesn't let the harsh, judgmental eyes, words, and stones of The Pure define her life and crush her soul.
I spent a few days with her when my dear friend, Dick Brown, was preparing her for 800m at Atlanta Olympics. Unfortunately she was eliminated in the heat but we also sat together to watch the semi-final of women's 800m. She is a very lovely young girl (well, at the time and still is compared to my ripe old age...) and we had a great time. I wouldn't call her my friend--I was probably even closer to her arch-rival, Regina; or her teammate, Vicki Huber, but it was very nice. She was a great runner--a bit of a basket case but a great talent nevertheless. Knowing her, and having spent a few days with her in person, it deeply sadens me, for whatever caused her to go that direction. You're right; feel terribly bad for her kids. She shouldn't have done that--that's no-brainer. But I feel even worse FOR HER and even more so to see her being a prey for mockery and taseteless joke. Sure, it's everywhere now, thanks to a giant internet gossip powerhouse, but I was sort of hoping that WE could have left her alone. I was feeling extremely bad FOR HER. I guess it wasn't a sensible thing to do... My bad. I wasn't even going to make another comment just to bring the thread back up--but it still stays up there. Still much better than piling up some 500 posts in a few hours somewhere else. Dick had a lot of good things to say about her. And, even after she left him and went back to WI, I was glad to see giving him a lot of credit in her book.
