Forums >Gears and Wears>Can running shoes really start costing this much?
Are they really running shoes? I know they have them classed that way, but with the suede etc, they look more like a classic from the late 70s - and too hot to run in. Definitely wouldn't want for stream crossings. They don't give any tech specs. Can't be a running shoes without tech specs.
And most people know* that bikes cost $5k. And, every bike shoe costs $399. Biking is expensive, people! *or conditioned to believe

Everyone needs a little black shoe.
Very true.

They kinda look like hiking shoes. Which have been costing that much, at least at REI, for some time.
A little part of myself dies every time I plunk down $100 for a pair of shoes already.

They're calling it a "heritage running shoe". Snicker.

Statistics that I find amusing:
NB 510 MSRP $64.99
NB 1020 MSRP $119.99
NB 2040 MSRP $274.99
Cost = -$12.50 + $0.14 * Model Number
Paying out over $100 every month for running shoes is the main reason I don't wear them anymore when I go running. It was just getting too expensive.
If shoes cost that much I think I'd have to either give up running or try to do that barefoot thing.
At first I thought this was just a misprint, but then I jumped on Amazon.com and looked up the shoe and sure enough it was the same price. And there were 21 reviews on the shoe, most of which said it was the best shoe ever!!!!!!!!!!!
These bad boys will set you back $399. And then you still need a bike!

I'm still using the same (road) bike shoes I bought back in 2005. Pearl Izumi found on sale for less than $100.
BUT... If I could get my running shoes to last as long as my bike shoes do I'd pay 400 bucks every time.
That's cool.

Pfft. Not even any clashing neon colors or graffiti-style print all over them. Pass.

I'm still paying ~$70 for last year's models on closeout.

I suppose that makes the Hokas a bargain at $150-$170.
i typically go for sub-$100 shoes. Sometimes it's just a matter of waiting for a sale.

Eh...I paid about $300 for my road shoes almost 2 years ago and have no plans to replace them anytime soon (and have the MTB version of the same shoe...have had those >3 years). Per mile my cycling shoes are hella cheap. Per months used my cycling shoes are also hella cheap. I have a lot of retired running shoes languishing in landfills. I have 0 cycling shoes in landfills in the same timeframe.
