3650 Miles in the Hurtlocker

Sucker Punches (Read 1095 times)

I'm so happy to hear that you can run again.  Just be careful -- cortisone can mask issues even when they aren't gone.  But since yours is nerve-based (right?) I'd be less concerned about that.

My ortho appointment isn't until the 19th.  My wonderful wife knew I was wavering on going so she just located one and made the appointment. Big grin  Pain is still about 80-90% of what it was.  Two weeks, little change.

Sad I really hope it's nothing too serious and that you don't need surgery Spaniel!

Glad to hear you are able to run again Tara, and like Spaniel said , just be careful!

I've been away from the forum for a while. Reading the last few pages of this thread ... HOLY CRAP!

spaniel: spend the money and get it checked out. Even a confirmation is valuable. It is NOT an issue you want to linger long-term.

Tara: I hope your FFS Magnet reverses its polarity.

Cecil: my dad had the same cancer and treatment (although I think he had 8-12 rounds). He had some minor "intestinal issues" during and slightly after treatment, but they went away within a couple months at most. He's been completely cancer-free ever since, and he has his same old energy.

Happyfeet: that leg is just weird, man.  I hope the exercises tame it.

Rocken: you've been battling stuff for a while now. While I appreciate the inspiration you've been to me to keep my head and stay positive, I wish you'd shed your troubles and stop being such a role model.

I doubt I'll be shedding my troubles or stop being such a "role model" soon but thanks for the sentiment Clive!  I go in for my brain  MRI on Monday. I'm not sure that I actually have a brain to scan, guess we shall see. I "donated" 15 vials of blood to the lab this past Monday and I go to Hershey for my EMG/NCV on Thursday. I found from the specialist that I do indeed have small fiber neuropathy  (had a nerve biopsied last year) and that as well as generalized weakness,  I have hyperreflexia.  I go back to the specialist in early Feb. Since a bunch of the tests are getting sent to Mayo, the doctor wants to make sure that she has all results before I go back.

on the foot note, doctor doesn't want me to do ANY nowhere bike etc etc etc..  of which I've decided that I will take my changes. I went to the practice I did because they are supposed to be sports doctors. Telling me no cross training doesn't not sound like some thing a sports doctor would tell an athlete with a broken foot. Also she neglected to even talk about the possible degenerative changes (other cause could have been surgery but I haven't had surgery there) that were noted on the MRI. I go back in 3 weeks to find out if it's healed or not. So I probably won't be up and running until late Jan early Feb

      Feeling the growl again

Weird.  Within the past two days this muscle thing has gone from being bad enough I tried not to use the arm to almost non-existent.  Not sure things would go well if I tried to do anything with it, but even after a 12-miler this morning I didn't have the typical 15 minute of annoying pain afterwards.

          Weird, but a good sign.

I've knackered my hamstring for the new year due to a mixture of an interval session after two days off and ignoring the issue while racing a 7.5 mile XC the weekend just gone.  XC doesn't seem to be good for me, 3 races = two injuries so far this winter session.

Sucks about the hamstrings...been there too many times in the recent past.  It was like clock work, took 10-14 days each time to recover from and be back out there.  Like the British slang, always cracks me up.

              Feeling the growl again

This isn't physical but it sure was a punch to the gut.

I just learned I have to work in Philly April 18-22.  No outs to this one.  So after 2 years of getting back to being able to FINISH a marathon and qualify for Boston, and the $$ to register and FF miles to book the flight, I can't run it.

FFS.  Should have some angst to apply to tonight's workout I guess.  I don't even know where to go with this spring's racing now.

Sorry , Spaniel. That really sucks! Is that muscle thing still feeling better?

Rocken, Tara, and Rother Runner; sending good vibes to all of you to get on the mend. And anyone else who is here.

Yes.  I don't feel it often, just a little sore on the side after a run.  It's still there though, I extended my other arm this morning reaching for something and it pulled on it (it's clearly very, very tight) and it throbbed for a couple hours.

glad the muscle is feeling better Spaniel! Hope your hamstring is feeling better ASAP Rothrunner!

As for me I am close to a partial diagnosis. I had a Repetitive Nerve Stimulating test this morning and it was abnormal which points to Myasthenia Gravis, so I had more blood drawn to check for certain antibodies. I got a call a little after 3 this afternoon from the Rheumotologist at Hershey letting me know that someone had called requesting them to call me to make an appointment.so even though all this sucks, things are finally progressing enough that I should know most if not all of what's going on with me in the next couple months.  I just have to find a way to be as active as I can without overdoing it, which won't be easy since it doesn't take much to over do it .So I will be away from the hurtlocker until I feel like I have more than just whining to do.

I hope to see less  activity in this thread because even though I won't be posting I doubt I will be able to no keep coming in here to see how you all are doing!

                      Take care and THANKS!

The day I fly out.  Debating Louisville or a podunk race in Xenia Ohio the flanking weekends.  Opinions welcome.

This conference is typically the first week of April.  I don't know how I missed the change only for 2015 but it totally blindsided me.

And Rocken...hope you read this....I hope you are not a stranger here.  I totally understand if you need to separate from this place for you own healing/sanity.  But I hope it is not because you think you will be considering a "whiner", as you termed it.  The shit you have been through is real, it is not whining.  My stuff is whining by comparison.  I have not met you but I am with you and support you.  I hope to hear from you and pray for your healing and ability to continue to pursue the activities you love.  I have thoroughly enjoyed following your races and those of your son.
