50 and over 5k and beyond

Spring into March (Read 9 times)

Another cloudy day of rain, wind, in the 30s. More snow on the mountain, couldn’t see it all day. Spent about an hour home workout with band resistance, PiYo, weights and foam rolling.

Di: stupid bug! Hope you are feeling better. You mentioned transplant before. The waiting is the worse. It’s amazing how you are still working everyday, tough cookie

Altair: sounds like the 6 miler made your day, good job! The road with the curve has a really wide shoulder for you to run. I'm assuming you run facing traffic. Doesn't look like a busy road so that's always ideal. Love the photos especially with less snow, ha!

Led: short easy runs after a race and another on the way is a smart way to be fully rested and healthy when you toe the start line. It’s what I do too, just keeping body mobile. Sometimes, one of the perks of being a speaker is getting fed before the event. DH can’t wait, LOL!

    not bad for mile 25

settling grievances with violence, and the matter of whether Rock should have gotten away with it, or escorted out, or should he lose his Oscar.

Led: think you meant Smith….. he’s the ‘slapper’ I’m waiting to see if Rock apologizes to Jada P-Smith.
DH watched most of the show but I don’t think I’ve ever watched it live. Usually find out who won the next morning.

      Correct, I meant Smith. Sorry.

      Trails

Az, I've been reading all I can find about both transplant and dialysis.  The transplant process is something else.  Once my kidney function drops to 20% I can get a referral to the transplant center in Tulsa....then comes all the testing to see if I'm healthy enough to even get one.  Then since I don't have a live donor lined up I'll have to go with a cadaver one and the waiting list is 3 to 5 years if not longer and during that time I'll probably have to go on dialysis any way.  It's a shit show and I recommend NOT having to do this.  My doc thinks it was caused by high BP but mine had never been excessively high and I are right, exercised, etc.  I am not overweight, don't smoke, don't drink (at least not for 20 or more years), don't have diabetes so it seems to be just shit luck.  But nothing I can do now but continue to live the best I can.

        Runs in the rain

az - It must be interesting to look at the mountains and see a different weather condition in the higher elevations. Good you have indoor exercises you do on the bad weather days! On a road with any real traffic I make sure I run facing the traffic. The roads here usually have a shoulder but sometimes it may not be very wide. When I visit my sister in North Carolina the roads are just wide enough for the cars with little or no space by the sides before dropping into drainage ditches. My sister always runs on trails or paths in a park. I am glad I live in NY because I like being out on the roads, that is if the traffic is not heavy!

Di - The wait for a transplant can be a long time. You are lucky to have dialysis as a temporary alternative if you ever do need it!  A friend of mine was waiting for a heart transplant and he did not make it.

Led - On a lighter note I looked up where you could order a used copy of Sturgeon's "More Than Human." ABE (Advanced Book Exchange) lists copies for as low as $5 and that includes shipping! For $9 you could get the paperback with the Richard Powers cover, he was a SF paperback cover artist back in the 50's and 60's known for abstract looking designs, I am tempted to get a copy of that myself! If you want a really nice copy there is a leather bound version of the book for $85!

Yesterday it was raining on and off and I had a mild headache, so I didn't run.

Today I went to the lab for fasting bloodwork and had breakfast afterwards. Rain was expected at noon so I decided to wait until after it passed for my run. I made an ambitious plan mapping out an 8 mile run, however looking at radar maps I could see a line of storms approaching and the forecast gave chances of showers or even a thunderstorm for the afternoon. So I thought it best to do a shorter and local run. It was 66 degrees and cloudy for the first mile, the the sun came out and it felt warm. I ran down the road to the two mile point and turned around to run back. The sky was bright with a few puffy clouds to the east of the road but a massive dark grey cloud was to the west. I wish I had taken my camera because the contrast in the two halves of the sky was dramatic! With about a mile and a half to go the dark cloud moved overhead and there were some high winds and drizzle! Luckily it ended and the last half mile was sunny again! So total was 4.1 miles.

It's still nice out and now I'm going to get ready to start some of the seeds I just got. Of the seed I planted already I have tomatoes and pepper plants sprouting, a couple of yellow squash, but no zucchinis! I give the ones that have not sprouted a bit more time and if no results I'll have to buy newer seeds.

Long distance runner, what you standin' there for?
Get up, get out, get out of the door!
