Week 50, for Penguins and their llamas!! (12/08-12/14) (Read 10 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Today is National Llama Day.  I don't know why.  It is also my last day of teaching, which is nice.  Though I still need to write the final ...

So DH texted me Friday afternoon and said, "I'm ok, but I cut my finger on my table saw, and am at the ER waiting to be seen."

It wasn't bad, but he caught the tip of the bone, so he's supposed to make an appointment with a hand specialist today.  We also have to change the bandage today, which is going to be hilarious.  Since neither of us have medical training, we're going to trade his neatly wrapped digit for a gauze monstrosity.  Should be good times ...

Putzed around and ran out of time for weights today, and then discovered it's supposed to rain all day, so no biking.  Clearly it's time to stop putzing, if I want the good stuff that comes from doing weights.

I'd weigh in on divorce lawyers, but I don't have any knowledge at all.  Though what Docket and Ginny said about having someone not emotionally involved on your side makes sense ...

Ouch, Hope!  Hope he is doing OK.

I have 5-6 miles tonight or my RD.

HM - I hope he's okay. I had a boss who did wood inlay work. Twice when I worked for him he cut off part of a finger. Yet still he persisted. When Jim sliced off part of his thumb a year or two ago, he was given a special wrapping that makes the flesh grow back faster. You can't even tell there was a problem there. Good luck with your final class.

D - given the forecast, today might be a good day to rest.

All day rain here. Like D, I'll either do some miles on the TM or rest. Jim has an ophthalmologist appt. this afternoon and I'll need to drive him home, so I may not have time to do much. OTOH, waiting while eyes dilate is really really boring, so I may need to run.

Last class is over, woo-hoo!!!  Now I just have to finish writing the final, then give it on Wednesday (and then grade it, etc).  Glad I'm done with this teaching thing, at least until next fall!!

            Singer who runs a smidge

I've got about 2/3 of my final written, just need to finish the rest, get it copied, etc.  Close to done!!

I tried kombucha yesterday.  It was nasty.

Did my weights this morning, woo-hoo!!  Alas it's supposed to rain all day again, so no biking.  Which is a shame, because it's 60 degrees, and classes are over so there's less traffic.  It's not supposed to get above 40 the rest of the week, so this week may be a total biking loss.  Oh well ...

I made cookie dough fudge over the weekend, as I'm the resident "provide nibbly dessert stuff for Christmas" for my family.  I put most of it in the freezer but kept out a few pieces for me and DH.  They have disappeared.  I'm guessing that's a good recipe ...

Morning!  Left work early yesterday with bad stomach reflux, got some meds yesterday but opted to take my RD then, so I lifted and played piano and stayed indoors.  I have 7 today.

HopesMom, yay for the last class being done!  Nice weights workout.  How is hubby doing?  PS, I don't like kombucha either.

HM - maybe bundle up on a clear but cold day?  Nice job on the weights and fudge.

D - sorry your stomach is acting up again. good luck with your 7 tonight.

RD for me, fortunately. I have a weird pain in my heel/leg. I'm hoping walking Ben will resolve it.

                  Singer who runs a smidge

So DH saw the hand doc, and he said "Wash daily with warm water and redress, otherwise you're good."  So no worries, just takes time to heal now.  Yay!

His appointment was early this morning, so we both had to scramble to get out of the house and get going.  I don't think he was too late ...

Weights done today.  My final is this afternoon, and as soon as the kids are done I will head out, bypass home, and head to church choir practice.  I think I'll probably be late, but it's the last practice before our cantata on Sunday, so I figured I should go, especially since I think I've only sung through the last couple of songs once.  Luckily I'm pretty good at sight-reading!  So no biking today due to cold, icy patches, and time constraints.  I could've settled for just one of those!

                    Former Bad Ass

Afternoon.  Been busy finishing my first three substantial pleadings in Indy and that has taken most of my time, grrrr. LOL

                      I have 9 miles tonight.

Ginny, how is the foot doing?

HopesMom, glad to hear your hubby is doing well.  Have fun tonight.

I am thinking about joining a gym.  I need more structure in my life.  I worked until 7:00 last night which is less than ideal.  I am always less disciplined about running in December, January and February when there is less daylight and it's colder outside.  I'm like a bear and want to hibernate in the cold and dark winter months.  There is a Gold's Gym right next door to my office so that would be very easy to do.  I do have my running clothes in my car if I decide to go for a run after work, but it's so cold outside.  That's the benefit of running in the morning.  I just bundle up and go for a run without knowing how cold it is outside.

Ginny: hope the pain goes away

HM: I was actually thinking about making some fudge to bring into the office.  I haven't made it in forever and baking is one of those things I stopped doing after I got married, but it's become my new bonding activity with the kids.  The kids and I actually won a Christmas cookie baking competition this weekend.  There was only one other entrant, but still first place counts for something!

Damaris: Have fun with the nine!

                        GinnyinPA

HM - I'm glad your husband is healing well. Good luck with the exam. I hope you make it to practice, not too late.

Lew - having a gym next to your office would be good. It's easy to get to so you'll have no excuses not to go, and maybe some of your office mates go as well so you might have someone to talk to when you're on the TM. Have fun with the fudge making. Teaching your kids how to cook is both fun and useful.

D - good luck with your 9 this evening.

It's cold and sunny here. Our morning walk was good, except when walking directly into the wind. I've got 6 easy to do this afternoon. I need to remember how to dress for 30 when running. My usual is to overdress and I'm trying to lessen the sweating. My foot improved gradually yesterday. The walk did help but my leg stayed stiff until after dinner.

You can always try and see if you can run at lunch at the gym, or go there to lift, etc.

                            Singer who runs a smidge

Funny, I was toying with the idea of (re)joining the gym as well this morning!  Mostly because I'm not quite getting enough sleep because of quartet and chorus practice, but I could pick up an extra 30 minutes if I went to the gym for weights instead of doing them at home before I leave for work.  I don't know if I'd actually do it, though.  I swam for a while, but it's a little hard to go to a gym full of Barbie and Ken dolls, which is what you get when it's a university gym.  They're all 20 and fit.    Then there's the cost issue ... home is free!

Anyway.  I skipped weights in favor of time with DH this morning, since I could tell both of us were beginning to miss each other with my crazy schedule this week (and last weekend).  This weekend won't be any better -- I have a lead/bass sectional on Saturday, then lunch with my director, and our choir's cantata is Sunday.  I'm basically just gunning for next Thursday -- that's the start of my winter vacation.

I did make choir practice last night, and on time, too!!  My first student finished their final in 8 minutes, and nobody took longer than 30.  I must be the easiest teacher in history.  Of course, I haven't graded the tests yet ...

Oh, and I heard yesterday that I passed the directing module for my director's certification program!!  Now I only have teaching and rehearsal planning left to do, and with the sectionals I've been running, teaching ought to be fairly easy.  Hoping I can get that one done in January.  Woo-hoo!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Morning!  Didn't run last night so the 9 will have to happen tonight.

HopesMom, don't you get a gym benefit at the school (like use of the school gym?)
