Saturday up and at 'em! (Read 54 times)

Since I don't have a schedule unless MRT, I usually pick whichever day around the weekend is going to have the best weather. Sometimes Saturday, sometimes Sunday, but Friday and Tuesday work too.

Twinsies, except I'd have a hard time fitting a LR on a week day. But it's not because of the plan.

This is what I did a few years ago, before I had a formal plan, and during a particularly brutal winter back in MI. I would decide whether Saturday or Sunday would be less miserable for 18-20 miles back & forth on the ~1 mile stretch of road near me that was most likely to be at least marginally runnable. Any other run I would do on the TM, but not the LR. Man I do not miss having winters like that.

33 degrees right now, so not in a big hurry, but rain later so better not wait too long.

Plus my knees are still really sore, dammit.

          I lost my rama

Ran a 5k race this morning.  Little did I know what an event this would be....

Directly in front of the United Nations building where the race would start, I did a warm-up 2 miles passing the UN and proceeded down by Trump Towers.  The juxtaposition of an oxymoron made me chuckle the four times I past by.  I passed some serious looking fast dudes who looked like they were from eastern Africa.  Shit.  Then I passed a woman who looked like Des Linden.  Shit... it WAS Des Linden.  I looked down at the combat boots I put on this morning (Altras) and knew I was screwed.  Shit.

Got into my assigned corral - C for Chump not Champ for this guy.  The announcer guy said there were 10,000 runners in this race.  WTH... for a 5K?  I was sure this would be a Walking Dead scene and I'd be trampled from the start.  Then he threw out names like Huddle, True, Linden.... all sounding ominously familiar to me.  I was shivering in my boots.... Shit.

I tied my jacket around my waist before the start.  It was a staggered start (so not to make it a Walking Dead scene... smart).  But I missed my gentleman moment as there was a woman in a tank next to me shivering away.  I should have given her my jacket until we started... what an ass I was this morning.  Karma would pay its dues on me later.  Shit.

We ran through the mid-town streets.  Now I know why I hate 5K's.  They suck... and so did I.... for air.  We wrapped around Central Park and entered into the final half mile or so of the NYC marathon (tomorrow), which is also cool, b/c it's the same finish as the marathon (which I did the past 3 years).  I was looking for a fellow forumite along the finish and wanted to yell out "Nas!  Nas! Nas!"  but I didn't mostly because I didn't have the breathe, and partly because I didn't want to be escorted to the Medical Tent for mental issues.  Shit.

Finished... 23:27.  Damn I'm slow.  That's 7:33 pace... I ran a marathon last year at 7:54 pace.  Guess I need to enroll myself in the school of Old Fart Hard Knocks.  I no longer have a V02Max... I have a V02Min.  This wasn't supposed to be a RR... Shit, did I say that already?

            3/17 - NYC Half

4/28 - Big Sur Marathon  DNS

            6/29 - Forbidden Forest 30 Hour

8/29 - A Race for the Ages - will be given 47 hours

            No more marathons

onemile - I gave my GSD an extra hug this morning for Gracie.

This has been a relatively good running week for me.  4 runs of a bit over 4 miles and a 6.4 mile run today.  And the average pace for those 5 runs is my best pace since the end of July.

Cool story Bert-O. Although not an official RR, I enjoyed it.

I got 10 hours of sleep last night and it was amazing. I really needed it. Decided to scale the pace work back by a mile this morning in the interest of keeping the legs fresh and not putting too much stress on my questionable knee. So I got out around 9:00 at the canal where the race is being held next Saturday. Schedule called for 10/5 tempo but decided on 10/4. I was looking back at my previous cycle and the week before the race I did a 2x15min @ goal pace type workout.

3mi UP> was keeping it nice and relaxed just trying to keep good form 8:15, 03, 7:48.   Easy peasy...nothing from the knee

4mi @ pace (target 6:32-34) 6:13, 28, 28, 25   The watch almost went in the canal...kept telling me my real time pace was super slow. Not too difficult. Just enough work to get my legs moving but not fatigue me)

                  3mi Down> 7:15, 22, 55  Very easy

Good workout. Knee feels 100% so far. Don't feel worn out at all. Its taper time baby!

Need to catch up later...I see some doughnuts and an RR

                    LRB

I ran 10, a portion of which went up and down the hill I injured my ankle on doing hill repeats last April. It wasn't all that happy with the rolling hills on the course, but I was able to finish the stupid thing. I will probably take some Motrin or Advil just as a precaution, since I'm paranoid AF of a reoccurrence.

Today's my run day but it was cold and I just couldn't do it. An hour on the elliptical on a hard setting made up for it at least.

Most people here run them on sunday rather than Saturday, so i assume it’s regional.

Most people here run them on Saturday. During MRT I run them on Sunday, so I am usually alone and miss out on the company of the group runs...it seems that I am always missing out on something!

Bert-O, I ran that 5K on one of the years I ran NY. It was fun. Great job!

                              onemile, glad Gracie is home!

Ran the Monumental HM with hubby. Perfect weather and no sun. 2:27 which is two mins off his PR so we are happy.  Had lunch with Mary and are now driving back to cincy for our flight back home. We will come back.
