    Hi Pens.

I might do a random run tonight for 30 minutes.

Gus: most of my runs are random, it keeps it interesting.

Hog: I have run twice since my marathon. The break is nice.

Scotty: good luck with the haircut

Bin: let me know how you like the Newtons.

    Have a good day.

Here is an example why I never plan my routes beforehand. A 13 mile run without ever getting more than 1 mile from my house.

I usually have a route in mind when I leave the house but sometimes switch it up on the fly.

No running for me. Im getting over a stomach virus. 2 of my little kids (3 yo and 4 yo)  also have it so I haven't slept much since Sunday night.  I hate vomit. Worst part of parenting IMO.  Only Good thing from it is I can see my abs Today. As soon as I eat a cracker will be fat again.  So whatever.

Bin, nice shoes! Are those asics?

That would be great if the poo monster ever struck to only be 1 mile from home at all times. Ha

First 5k on Saturday.  Not sure what I should do today.  I'll figure it out when I get home.  Will make Friday a rest before race day Smile

Morning!  Concert last night ended up being combined band and choir.  There were some really good songs in it, but it took forever.

When I run, I generally start out with a good idea of where I'm going, but I change up at least little variations on the fly.

                Have a good day!

Hi all! Lately I always run pretty much the same route, along the river path. The only question is where along the river I park my car. And then I have to remember!

A much-needed rest day today. Too much playing, too little sleep. Zzzz... Oh wait. I have to work.

                  Call me Ray (not Ishmael)

I always run the same route.  Round and round on a trail behind my house, kinda like a NASCAR track but not paved and at slower speeds, and no screaming fans.  Only a question of how many times around.  Also a question of how much snow is going to be on it, so I know what to wear.

Quick post as I take a break from drafting this huge brief.

Scotty, I don't have a surgery date yet.  I don't even have a surgeon.  I see the best candidate on Monday afternoon, so that should give me a good idea.

                      Former Bad Ass

I never plan my routes.  I just run around my city and I know where most places are compared to the house so when I have X miles left, I must be at X light, etc.

Gustav - I had something similar happen last year.  I was running in an area I hadn't run before that is in farm country.  Several streams meant bridged crossings are not very frequent.  I couldn't find a way to head in the direction I wanted (south), I just kept going west and northwest.  Then I crossed a bigger road whose name I recognized and thought I knew where I was, but I was wrong.  Eventually I pulled out the phone and called my husband because I knew that getting home would take me much farther than I had run before.  It taught me that when I'm on a long run in unfamiliar territory, I need to map out my route.  Worse, the mapset for my area has a lot of errors, showing roads that don't exist or farm lanes that lead to barns as through roads, so I like to drive the long routes where possible so I can make loop runs that actually work.  After last spring, I know most of thenearby roads so can do 10-14 mile runs pretty easily without needing to look at the map ahead of time. For short runs, I have only a few options if I run out of my front door, but I can extend them by running in the subdivisions like Dan does.  Only our subdivisions aren't all that big.  They have 3-5 streets, not dozens.

Mitch - if your body says rest, enjoy.

Bin - I bought those same shoes, but a different color.

LRB - if I go too fast on the TM, I tend to get hurt.  Be careful.

Jerry - hope you can avoid the snow.

Damaris -good luck with Trixie.  I hope you feel better too.

Dan - good job, listening to your body.

PAD - I hope you enjoyed your four.

Stonefence - those cookies sound good.

Scotty - sometimes working around the holidays can mean you get a lot done, because there are so few interruptions.  OTOH, it is a good time to use your leave, if you have some left.

Jimmy - hope your child is better so you can catch up on sleep.  Maybe run this weekend?

Tracilynn - sorry for the sick kids.  I hope they are better too.

Oldfatslow - I would get very bored running the same route all the time.  It's bad enough walking the dog in the same two neighborhoods every day.  Good luck on your 5k on Saturday.  They can be a lot of fun.

Jack - I hope you enjoy your random run.

Obiebyke - I like river runs, but again, I get bored if I'm always running or walking in the same place.  Enjoy your RD.

AFM:  Rest day.  I woke up with a very stiff and sore back, not sure why.  Walking Ben helps, but I'm just as glad not to be running today.

D, there was an article about fibroid surgery in yesterday's WSJ.  Don't know if it applies to you, but you might want to check it out.

                            Barking Mad To Run

You have quite the variety of shoes there, Bin...Asics, Saucony, and whatever that other one is.  If I lined all mine up - I have 9 pairs of running shoes - you would see they are all the ASICS Nimbus.  Only shoe that really works well for me.  Hope they never change it drastically!  Congrats on the 10+!

Sounds very active times for for you, Jimmy, between dealing with sick and all the parties, etc. Hope you can catch up on some sleep when you are off next week!

Won't your snow start melting now, Jerry, if it's up to 40? Good luck with the 8 to 10.

Scotty: good luck with the haircut.  No worries there, I always go to the same barber each time, at the military base. Very nice Korean lady and  by now she knows exactly what I want.  Don't have to tell her anything, I just sit down in the chair and she cuts away...and it's exactly right every time. And post-haircut, she gives a very nice back-of-the-neck rub and head rub.  Feels great!  But always makes my left leg start twitching...     She is very popular with all her customers.  Enjoy your random run tonite!  Carry your camera and take some photos of your neighborhood holiday lights.

Dang, Dan...that sounds like an awful lot of circles and back-and-forth stuff to run!  How is the calf today?

Sorry about the sickness in the house, Traci, hope everyone there is back to 100 percent in no time.  See your abs....oh yeah, Traci, you're SO darn fat...   I think my abs have become 'vampire abs", they haven't seen the light of day in so long...

Good luck with your first 5K, OFS.  Have fun with it, don't worry about the time - any time you do for your first one is a PR - and just run and enjoy the whole experience of your first organized 5K.

Have a good day yourself, Zelanie!

Happy rest day obiebyke.  Yeah, sometimes I forget where I parked too, lol.  At those times, I just set off my car alarm with my key thingy, and then follow the sound. SO fun getting old.

Good luck with your candidate, Damaris!  Hope it all works out for you.  We want you healthy!

Wow, Ginny, glad you had your phone for that run, so you could be rescued.  I never carry mine with me and it drives Gail crazy.  Especially when we travel, cuz I'm the type that if we are in unfamiliar territory,  just goes right out the hotel door, turns left or right and then starts 'exploring."  I never look at maps or any of that, I just 'go'...like a stray dog wandering around, lol, see a street or road that looks interesting and and tell myself "Let's go down this way!"  and off I go.  I always give Gail an 'estimated' time of when I will be back..and she usually adds 30 minutes to an hour to it, lol.  Amazingly, I've never been mugged, robbed, or seriously hurt - altho I have been shot at a couple of times - so I guess I have one darn good - and busy! - guardian angel.    Sorry about the sore back.   Lie down flat on your back, bring your knees up to your chest, wrap your arms around your knees, and then 'rock" gently back and forth for a minute or two, this will help ease tension in your back.  Do this off-and-on at various times through the day, and you back should feel a little better.

I am just about outta here, a couple more hours.   Will probably be out of pocket tomorrow, and until Sunday sometime.  Gail has the day off too, and we have some stuff to do tomorrow, and then I have 2 5Ks on Saturday (one in the morning, one in the evening), have to travel a bit for both...will probably go to bed early Saturday night after all that.  So if I don't 'see' you until Sunday, hope everyone has a great weekend, and a safe and healthy one!

                                G'morning penguins!

I still exist I swear!  As I haven't been running I've rather stayed away.  Today was the first day I've run since the 7th.  I only did 2 & 1/2 miles and my left knee was still hurting I knew that's all I could handle.  I'm just so frustrated.  Oh, well, I know it really hasn't been that long.  I just need to get out and do other forms of exercise, and just haven't been overly motivated.

Normally I'm running in areas that i've been a gagillion times, so although I usually have an idea where I want to go, I'll change my mind on a whim and never really have to worry about getting lost.  I do however have my favorite loop that I do the most, but more often than not, make variations/extensions off of it.

Mitch-- Well obviously I waited a week longer than you have to run.  BTW, did you put up a RR?  I was looking for it and couldn't find anything.

LRB--- LOL@ if not, then get fat!   That helps a lot!  :-P  But yeah, as runners, we do tend to sweat it too much.  A good break and a smidgin of fat won't hurt most of us.

DR-- Glad Trixie is doing better!

Scotty-- wooohooo that's a nice break!  Enjoy and try to stay outta trouble.  78* wow, nice!

Jimmy--- oh the lack of sleep of a young parent.  It really is hard, but I guess this will be good practice for when the new little comes on the scene.

Jack-- ahhhhh, I like your profile picture, thank you!  *hugs*  how are you doing?

Dan-- LOL yeah, that would be a little hard a planning!

Traci-- Yikes @ everyone being sick in your house.  I hope you & the kids start feeling much better soon.  And i do stick close to the house when I'm scared the poo monster might strike.

Hi, Hi, Hi, everyone I didn't mention!  Hope everyone is having a good Thusday!
