Speak softly and carry a big DAILIES (Read 46 times)

Morning!  Probably run 6ish with the running club later.

Dave- Hanson's is a much faster read than Pfitz.  I don't think it really contradicts Pfitz, they take similar information but go at it a different way.  I do feel like Pfitz' target audience is younger and faster than Hanson's, which is maybe why they come to different conclusions- their "elite" plans in the back of the book have longer LRs, for example.  Both coaches have issues with the "run your first marathon in only 3 days a week" type plans, as they should.

      Good morning everyone!

Easy 8 done this morning.  It was a weird combination of humid with a cool breeze, so I was sweating a lot (like always), but the breeze helped cool me off, it was nice.

Just looked at my log, this will be my first month over 200 miles since December.  Feels really good to be getting my mileage and consistency back up.  I've only taken off two days this month. Smile

I used that plan so I will take that as a compliment!

        Hi Dailies.

LRB: Nice ride. I think a full shot of the bike is in order.

        Tom: good luck with that.

Scotty: we have the same cycle!

DaveP: Don't you love the detailed instruction booklet that comes with the 210? I have the same one.

Baboon: Why take off a Thursday. It's strange but whenever I get sick and need to take a day off it is either a Friday or Monday.

D2: That is some big mileage. Training for anything specific?

        Hi everyone else.

Last day of school for me and it feels pretty good.  Yesterday, while DD was at swim practice, I went to Barnes and Noble and got the Daniels book. There is some good stuff in there but it's going to take some time to digest it all. VDOT, M. I, R, T... all that is new to me. I'm a big fan of The Who so I also got Pete Townshend's auto-biography. The best part was that both books were on sale and with my teacher educator card I got 20% off. $12 for both books. Score!  I ran three more miles last night. I'm still a bit sore but it's not that bad at all. Poor DW is still hobbling about and the DDs can't stop laughing.  Smile

        Have a good day.

Jack, I'm base building right now, trying to keep my mileage at 50-60mpw until I start a Pfitz 18/70 plan in July to train for Richmond in November.  I'm hoping that with 11 weeks of base building and 18 weeks of Pfitz (and actually sticking to it this time), along with 20-25lbs of weight loss, I'll be able to lay down a good PR come November (hoping to be ready to try for sub-3, but we'll see where my fitness is come November).  I have a 10k in Oct that I'll use as a tuneup race, so I'll see what my fitness looks like coming out of that race.

Last day of work until the end of summer?! Nice! Time to start running doubles. Big grin

Daniel's book a bit long-winded on the front, but it will explain everything in detail and I like his writing style so it's not a snoozefest. I think the vDOT values can be used with any plan to get you your target paces. At the very least it's a great reference guide. There are lots of plans at the back, especially in the 3rd Ed.

D2: Wow! Those are some lofty goals. A sub 3 marathon in itself is amazing but I think that would also be a HUGE pr for you.

Brr: I can tell it's a good book and the guy certainly knows his stuff. The big difference for me is that I am used to running plans like Pfitz wear you go out and do "16 miles with 12 @ GMP" or whatever. With the Daniels stuff you have to know your paces, and it seems like you have to adjust as you go. I think with some practice (and help from LRB) I will be writing my own plans at some point. Once my legs are fresh I want to do some 5 and 10Ks.

                Just B.S.

Strength training today, and hoping 2 days off from running will help my legs. We'll see if it works tomorrow morning. Lots of coffee, lots of water. May is saying goodbye to us with temps in the mid to high 80's and June will be saying hello with temps between the high 80's and low 90's......  (I swore I wouldn't complain! I will not complain!)

High here yesterday was 51f. Good for running but not much else the other 23 hours of the day when it's supposed to be almost summer.

Morning! The heat index was 88F and the dewpoint was 73 at 6am.  I did 9 miles instead of 13 because I was called to go to Broward to test the stupid alarm, remember.  Then, I get there and the key they gave me the wrong key!  Now I am back at home working from home and being cut off from a conference call due to phone problems.  Sigh.  Pilates and more miles later.

Go big or go home, right? lol  I'm realistic and I know that it might not happen this cycle, but I do think that I can get there eventually, with enough training and weight loss.  The weight loss alone points to a sub-3.  I ran my 3:14 at 195lbs, and according to Daniels, at 170lbs that's a 2:53.  Obviously none of that is exact, but being 25lbs lighter will definitely help.  Throw in a strong training cycle, and we'll see what happens.  Smile

The paces are giving in the form of times, so a 1 minute 45 seconds 400 meter time equates to a 7:02 pace, which can be translated for you with the pace calculator at MarathonGuide.com

The amount of speed work you do is expressed as a percentage of your total weekly mileage, so unlike the other plans where you run 7 miles Tuesday, 8 Wednesday, 12 Thursday and so on, you actually dictate what and when you are running what distance, the speed work is then based off of that.

That is what I liked most about Daniels when I trained for a 10K using his plan.  You create your own plan, basically.  Take the quality workouts from the book and add easy runs or other runs to the rest.
