Some days........ (Read 183 times)

Fortune and glory kid

I feel like I can conquer any run of any distance and then there are days like today when I question my decision to run a Marathon. I get done and say to myself, what are you thinking, you can't do this. How many of you deal with days like this? and how do you handle it?

The last whole week...but only 'cause I'm sick. I know eventually I'll kick this and it will be 50ยบ out and I will be glad that I'd doing it! Smile

      • 6 duathlons (1 Olympic distance)

      • 130#s (and stay there, gotdammit!)

I have lots of days when I doubt what I can do. But, I know that when the next run rolls around those doubts might be long gone. When I get stuck in a rut of lousy runs it's difficult to convince myself that I'll reach my goals, but if I just wait it out I know that I'll get focused again and get my running back. Smile

For me, the toughest part of the run is the first few feet. Once I get going I can usually settle right in. Sometimes when the runs have been tough, I will try to mix it up and run a hard/fast instead of a mid-range run, or go out for a long and very slow jog just to work it out. Fortunately for me, the variety thing seems to work. It can be especially tough in the winter, since 99% of my runs are on the tm. Don't put too much pressure on yourself about your first marathon. You'll get there.
