    Mornin' everyone.

DW and I bought a Subaru Forester the first year they came out. One of the things we liked about it was that it was a medium-sized car that could still handle the width of a full sheet of plywood. I also like that, with their 4-wheel drive, they are great in all kinds of weather. DW has an Outback that she loves.

Yesterday's rain garden installation went well, but it was a ton of work, and took about 8 of us 5 hours. It looks great, and should help manage stormwater runoff on that property.

Because I spent so much time digging yesterday, my legs were a bit achy and I almost slept in today. But once I woke up, I knew I'd stay awake, so I got up and was out the door by 4:15. It was mild and muggy, so I started slow. But the temp went down as I got closer to the ocean, and my turnover rate went up. I went 5.4 racewalking miles, and had a pretty good tempo workout. Now I have to get to my 8am race committee meeting, so I'm outta here.

    Have a greta Tuesday!

Last night the weather forecast called for rain to start about noon today and mostly in the southwest portion of the state.  So I was disappointed but not surprised to wake up to thunderstorms this morning.  My plan was to run to the gym for a workout.  Instead, I drove over, did a warm up on the TM, and then the workout.  No harm done.

A bit of a tiny break in our Summer weather this morning made for the best run in weeks, maybe months.  76° and a bit lower humidity at 5:30 AM.  6 miles with the last 4 all in the 8:30 to 8:55 range, without pushing it at all.  Nice to know I can still do that.

After all the props for the Subaru Outback yesterday (and Jay this morning), I got an ad in the mail last night from the local Subaru dealer offering 125% Clean Trade In value.  I'm sure it's a kind of Bait and Switch where they give the money on the Trade In and don't discount the car so much off MSRP.  But it might make me go check out their Outbacks anyway.

tselbs-maybe your body's telling you to take a little extra rest.  Hope you're feeling better today.

Track work from OM, ollie-tri from Denise (my family would occasionally go to Old Orchard when I was a kid), LR with monster hills from Leslie, speed work in the heat from Mike.  That's some serious running!

Byll--definitely consider buying online from a local dealer.  We did last time and I'll never go back.  Great time-saver and for someone like me who hates haggling, it simplified the process and I felt like I ended up with a much better deal than I would have shopping in person. Once you know what you want, Edmund's "true market value" pricing is a good place to start.  Good luck!

I'm a fan of German director Michael Haneke (with the exception of The Piano Teacher, which I hated).  We watched his most recent, Amour, that just came out on DVD.  It's a poignant meditation on love, aging, illness, and death in the form of an elderly couple, one of whom cares for the other who has had a stroke.  Unflinching and difficult to watch in places but really a great movie that's worth seeing.  I suspect it's especially affecting for those of use who have dealt with how to care for an elderly loved one; quite a few people here, I think.

Humid here but the temps haven't spiked yet.  Turned out to be a good run.  14 miles with some good hills.

            Be safe. Be kind.

                Greetings all!

Heavy rain and t-storms last night and a bit more humid this morning even as the rain heads east now. All fine....still holding onto summer I am! I had every intention of running to CrossFit early this morning, but my body said more sleep, so I hit snooze and that was that. Got out for 9.7 miles at 8:30 am with 10x 1 minute @ 7:00 pace with 1 minute rest. Felt good.

Like Tramps we use an on-line car purchase service through USAA. We've done this for years and it's always fabulous---price is right, service is great and no sales person who walks away when your husband says he's a graduate student---not realizing that the wife (me) has the down payment plus some in cash in her purse. That happened fifteen years ago and no way will we go through a dealership again. Big mistake.

                Feel better soon Tselbs.

You too henrun....I meant to say that earlier.

Nice running and new mojo these days enke!

Tramps, you once told me a funny story about buying a car and it was hilarious. I forget the details. Might be fun to share here if you have the time.

Wanted to test the legs with a 6 mile run, wrapped around 4 x 1/2 mile.  The park I run in has quarter miles marked, but not metric, so I run quarter or half miles when I do an interval workout.)  Got 3 of them in, but died in the 4th one, but that is okay because it means I worked the maximum I could.  About 4 minutes for each distance.  Spareribs

no particular reason but how in the world could CNY's flatland friends from Massachusetts win the mountainous and steep, if not very dangerous (especially at night), Cascade Crest 100 mile trail race by over an hour when excellent ultra trail runners out here in the P\NW run the trail and similar terrain all the time?  Did they run it cold turkey from sea level or get a chance to pre-run with experienced pacers or something?  I love trail running but, even in the days when I could have, CC's way too dangerous for regular runners.  They are all in a toally different world than the rest of us runners and just amazing.  .... to say nothing of a 73yo German runner winning his AG as a local 70yo who's run the Cascade a dozen times encountered a rare DNF.  www.hans100.net   I hope they bring you out here sometime too.

Yes! We survived the 100+ miles ( 93 of which was doing the Mt. Rainier Wonderland Trail).

Here is the profile of the ups and downs we covered on our 11 day trek around the whole mountain.

Deez, congratulations!!!  Wow, to PR on the 10K too!

It's been great to hear so many positive things from you all about the Outback.  I think I got a good price on it too, they definitely were motivated to get the 2013s off their lot.

Tet - I will not be running Labor day half or 4 miler.  However, there is a small chance I might volunteer, but not likely.

Salmon Days however might be in the cards for me.  My PR for that race is 56:40, right now, I'd be happy to break 1 hour, and think I might run it just to get my butt in gear.

I was inexplicably tired yesterday, then realized I had a sore throat.  Went to bed early and got a solid 8 hours, which is uncommon for me.  So I was definitely fighting something off.

Can't wait to run more though....hopefully tomorrow morning.

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

Jay - I meant to mention yesterday that Sunday on KEET-TV (also our PBS station), we were watching news from Ireland and there was a report about Ireland's Robert Heffernan who won the world title in race walking. The video footage was great.  It looked like a group of penguins when they were all bunched up and being videoed from above. Smile  But 50k (31 miles) in 3:37:56.  Ho-ly cow!!! Shocked  That is absolutely amazingly fast "walking."

Great pics, Posie!  Am looking forward to more, along with the report.

Tet - Kate said CC was the hardest thing she's ever done.  She came in DFL last year and was dang happy about it. Smile

When I was looking for a car (because The Hub totaled my beloved Nissan), we went through the Costco car buying program, as well as were able to take advantage of the zero percent financing Toyota was offering at the time.  Like others here, no haggling over the price.  I knew what we were paying going in.  It was nice.

6 EZ miles this a.m., at least I tried to keep it EZ.  Coach wants me to work on keeping my HR around 135 unless I'm doing speed work.  It's harder for me than it should be. Black eye

Poor Ziggy!  He is a very unhappy camper.  As soon as I walked into the house with him in the carrier, he started flinging himself against the door of it trying to get out.  And then he ran around the house like he was on fire.  So much for keeping him calm - no running, jumping, etc.  Took most of the evening before he sort of calmed down.  I tried to put the Cone of Shame on him, but he TOTALLY freaked over that and I was afraid he was going to hurt himself, so no cone.  When I left for work this morning, he was hiding under the bed.  He wants to go outside so bad, but he can't.  I hope he figures out the only place he can go to the bathroom is the cat box, which he never uses.  . . . . I do have one plant I'm giving up on, though.  I'm willing to sacrifice it for Ziggy's comfort, if he so chooses. Wink  Hopefully with the house quiet all day, he'll get a chance to relax.  Just don't lick the incision!!

Ran today a total of 19 with 3 out at MP and 2 back at MP.  Tired at the end.  Not too hot but humid!  I was drenched.  Well back to work.

Another 2-hour dental appointment this afternoon - the second such appointment attempting to do a root canal on this same canine tooth (no decay, just trauma from grinding, apparently).  At the end, the dentist gave up, couldn't find the nerve, and says I have to go to a specialist.  I am in dental hell.  Roll eyes

                              Trails are hard!

Greetings from Maine.  actually taking 3 days of vacation this week.  Job security and being busy at work does have some down sides--DW thinks I should be taking more time off.  Well, only a couple of calls and emails I needed to deal with.

the catch on my Garmin broke the other day, so I stopped at Wal-Mart this afternoon and got a nice Velcro wraparound sports band and put it on it.  worked great until I went to download today's run and I can't get it on the cradle.  D'oh. Embarrassed

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.
