Thursday Runs and the Packers play the Saints! (Read 517 times)

Jlynne

Good morning good people! What a perfect day it is here for running and football. There were people lined up to get into the Lambeau Field atrium at 5:00 AM this morning. Sheer craziness I know, but the town is buzzing with what they're describing as "the only Super Bowl Green Bay will ever get."

Take care of yourself Timbo. Sounds like you've got a lot going on right now.

That's a lot of miles on a pair of shoes Perch. You must be very light on your feet!

5 miles this morning in clear skies and temps around 52°  That's almost 10° warmer than yesterday! Have a great day everyone, and Go Pack!

    Marathon Maniac #3309

      Good morning,

Jlynne, sounds like a delightful run for you this morning - nice run Smile  I can't believe it was 100 degrees here a few short days ago, now  50's and 60's....great for running tho for sure !

Not that much going on really, Jlynne (just seems like it - LOL)  I got my back and sciatica issues settled in my mind, so off and running again I am. My aorta thing...well, I hope my doctor calls me today and tells me at least something, or I will be calling him. Ribs made me feel better with what he said yesterday, so I'm just thankful I can look at this "possible" problem with an optimistic attitude knowing it's a lot better knowing - than not......and maybe it's nothing to be concerned with

Ugggg, football. I really can't even imagine our Indianapolis Colts without Peyton Manning, but we're getting ready to find out. Talk around here is that he could be actually sidelined for MANY many games - maybe the whole season, depending on how quickly the nerves heal up in his neck after his May surgery. Which leads me to....why did he wait till May to have this neck surgery ? Oh, I'm sure there is a good reason, that we don't know about. Peyton is a very quite person - and the Colts are too regarding giving out much information about players and such. With Peyton out - and even with Kerry Collins being our new QB - we very well could lose many games and not make the playoffs. But the Colts have picked up some quality players on defense and offense, so maybe they will surprise me / us.

Ya know speaking of the Packers........I think it would have been awesome to have Brett Favre QB our team till Peyton returns. I know a lot of folk who didn't like Brett continually keep coming back - keeping people in suspense. But I personally admire the dude, and his love for the game and his relentless and resilient attitude...no quit in him ! I really never felt he ever returned to the game for the money, but his undying love of the game. There was some chatter around here that the Colts may pick him up, but those rumors quickly faded.

Two days in a row running for me - 3 after tonights run Smile

      Have a great day

ETA: I think it's great to see graphs, and it's aways intriguing seeing the hills others run. Here's mine from my run last night with 6 - 1/2 mile hill repeats  Big grin

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

Jlynne, look at you running 5  miles today. So good to see you running again! Love your avatar pictures btw.

Holly, do tell me about the salsa. One hour and a half drive to get it! wow.

Like Tramps, we are busy, busy around here too.

The carpet installer called Tuesday saying that the carpet we ordered is finally here and that they are coming to install tomorrow ( yes, 6 weeks behind schedule and I will not believe them until I see them). This mean staying until the wee hours of the night last night and tonight to empty the rooms, plus bumper crop of tomatoes that need to be converted in to marinera sauce, plus the box of peaches that is waiting to be made into peach pie filling. Plus all t he last minute details for the Autumn Leaf  Run, which I organize every year.

ahhh...I can't wait for next week Wink

9 miles this morning, 4 with the Easy Pacer. The legs are still feeling like lead post hike.

Tamster, that was not the Wonderland Trail we did, which is still under snow this year. We just went locally. Actually, this is a famous place for trekker from the West Coast since you can count on the weather being sunny.

        Great day to all!

So guess what?  Running/walking steep mountain trails all summer is actually good training for running a flat trail race in town!  Who knew? Smile

This was the first of a weekly Wednesday evening trail series. It was billed as an approximately 4 mile race,  but it was 3.5 by my Garmin.  My average pace was 8:59 - which is a couple seconds faster than my PR 5k pace!  I was worried that I haven't run 4 miles without a walk break in months - due to the steep trails I've been running on.  There are no 4 mile stretches that are all runnable - not even in my neighborhood!  Anyway the race was a blast, and the weather was perfect; 55° and overcast.  (The first race last year was 85° and sunny, and my avg pace was 9:58.)

This is a small race series (maybe 50 people) so they've never given age group awards before.  But this year they're doing 4 age groups:

under 19,  20-39, 40-59, and over 60.    So I still don't have any chance at an award, as I'm in with all those speedy 40-somethings.  The race series is still a bargain at $60 for 4 races.  They gave out tech shirts and running vests, and last night I won one of the random prize drawings for gloves and sleeves.  Good deal!

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

Always nice to win swag at races, Carolyn.

Lifting and a ten mile run while watching Casino Royale on the cardio cinema.  Daniel Craig is not exactly the James Bond of my youth.

Wildchild - terrific race!  And yes, just hiking up steep hills does build those quads ya know!

Tim- was that millimeters on the Y axis and hours on the X?  Wink

Tetsujin's writing style is a new literary genre called "poetic-cryptic".  I think he thinks it is 95% poetic.

I've decided Perch must float when he runs to get that many miles out of his shoes.

My AT is feeling better today, it might be ready for some kind of 20 sec run/1 min walk routine.  There is hope at least.

YAY Football! YAY Packers!  honestly, I'll be surprised if Manning returns at all. I think he'd be foolish to return after two neck surgeries. He's still young - no need to ruin your body more than you already have when he can have a very successful career off the field also.  as far as Favre goes . . . yes, great QB and certainly charismatic and able to bring out the best in his fellow teammates, but how you conduct yourself off the field and your moral code of conduct is what is deserving of respect. And because of that, I have little respect for him anymore.

Hope to finish working on the dog kennel tonight. 10x30. that outta give them lots of room to play when we have to be gone for longer stretches. For short stretches of absence, like a few hrs, I trust them to behave well, but not for longer stretches of the day. My work continues with Bella - my highstrung, reactive dog. Had obedience 101 last night. She was good 80% of the time. Roll eyes

we are in the 100's all week, but fortunately our nights are nice and cool - a reminder that fall is near, even if our days still feel like a typical July.

Big weekend for me coming up.

It's our inagural Half Marathon...we just snagged a Pro to run it !

Tonight I'll be marking the course. Despite our best efforts this thing is actually coming together and no longer looking like a train wreck.

That Bella will settle down as she gets older. Some just take longer to grow out of it, just like kids.

Yay to Carolyn on that stellar race! Yes indeed, all that tough trail running/hiking DOES make a difference! Congratulations, and enjoy the rest of the series.

Congratulations on the race prep, Slo! Sometimes it really does all come together. Proves that dedicated volunteers can overcome a bad RD after all.

We had to take the screens off our dining room and living room windows. Little Socks kitty with her party hat just had too much fun jumping and climbing up the screens. Angry She gets her stitches out Monday and the party hat comes off for good. Seems like a long two weeks!

We have a guy from WA come up every summer with big boxes of beautiful peaches. I handed over a check for $34 for a half box (thinking of the boxes of beautiful peaches, etc just left on Mariposai's doorstep!!) and we've been enjoying them the last few days. We've grilled several, eaten several, and last night I made a peach crumble from a recipe from my Cooks Illustrated Annual from 2006. Wow, was that good. DS2 had seconds (as did I...) and there's some left for tonight. But I bet the topping will be soggy by then. Oh well, it's still yummy. We love it when the peach man shows up!

Will RAL today, probably just 5 or so easy on the back trail. I did something to my lower back last night and it's not happy this morning.

SLO-they make it sound like he is going to race all three distances!

I love my dentist.  He is so nice.   I don't know if he babies me because he thinks I'm a nervous patient (he massaged my jaws once when I thought they had locked up), or if he is that nice to everyone.  Then today I had impressions done for a nightguard because I grind my teeth.  He came down the hallway just before I left to tell me how terrific I did.  ??

Looks like some good runs already.  Congratulations on a great race Wild!

Tim--I like your graph.  And to think I almost bought a Garmin to get mine.  Of course, mine would look like this:

So, I was all ready to hang up my racing shoes after this Sunday's 25K and concentrate on taking care of my heal.  But my racing team needed another grandmaster to fill a spot in a 5 person relay race on the 18th.  They really didn't need to twist my arm very hard.  It's really a lot of fun.  It's only a 5K loop in Fort Snelling State Park.  Not only will we be racing against all the other teams but we're having a big race between our teams' "young masters" (40 - 50) and our "mature masters" (50 and up).  They'll kick our butts but it will be a lot of fun.   I guess an extra week won't kill me.

Good luck with your race, Slo!  You can only do your best!

bike, wishing you the best with your new doctor and his take on your problem(s).  mari, it sounds like you had a fantastic backpacking trip.  wild, congrats on your trail series race with pace better than 5K PR pace.

Nice long runs for bike, CNY, Tramps (in rain and lightning), perch, and PBJ.  Good job on the speedwork for lame and bike (hill repeats with elevation graph - I love it).

This morning, it was about 60° and there was some wind.  I got in 10 miles in just under 1:44 for a 10:23 pace.  I only looked at my watch a couple of times.  At mile 8, my overall pace was 10:34 and I felt like I was fading fast.  At the end, I had an overall pace of 10:23.  It turns out I ran the last two miles in 9:44 and 9:19 and had negative splits by 3:44.  I've mentioned this happening  before and don't understand it since I don't try to pick up the pace  until the last quarter mile of most runs.

A good day and good runs for all.

Good afternoon. Sky was blue an hour ago but now is cloudy and dark again. Ugh.. warmer than yesterday though.

I had planned to get up extra early to run this morning because DH had to get to work early, and thsu I had to get DS off to school,  but I just couldn't do it.  Too tired, plus it was raining and I thought I heard thunder.  May have been the cat purring on my pillow but it convinced me to stay in bed a bit longer.

I got over to the Y at lunch again, a bit tired but I hopped on a TM and did a light progression run. 6 miles, speeding up gradually  from 8:34 the first mile to 7:53 for a couple of miles then a slower cool down last .5.  Probably  should have run longer and slower but  I ended up on the TM.

Erika, OBX is November 13.  I hope to be in decent shape and not too worn out,  but we shall see.  Your peaches ( and other foods) sound  great!

Enke, good to have a kind dentist. Still stinks to have dental work but it helps.

                                Friday tomorrow!
