Marathon Maniac #957

Mike E - excellent racing, and that was you holding back! You need to start cherry-picking your races better and you could accumulate some serious swag...Wink

Whew!  Finally home!  Last night’s flight out of New Orleans was delayed for two hours because Chicago was not taking any inbound flights due to dense fog.  Thankfully my connecting flight was also delayed, so I wasn’t stranded.  I finally made it home before 2am.

Then, up at 6:25 am to unpack/repack/pack for kids and get ready to head out for our family getaway weekend in Indianapolis – Indianapolis Children’s Museum today, Crowne Plaza Hotel downtown tonight, Indianapolis Zoo tomorrow.  Okay, coffee’s done, time to get started.  No rest for the wicked….

No run for me today, though…Joking

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Good running Mike.  I'm sure you'll do great today too!  Glad to hear things are going well with your DS.

      Holly, enjoy the Family time!

The plan for the weekend is to get packed for Ragnar Wasatch Back. I have a list put together by LabDuck that I'm using as a guide, and adjusting for what I need.  I wonder if there is a car adapter for the Microwave? I hope my Teammates know what they're getting into: I get fairly grumpy when I'm Hungry and/or sleepy ...

This morning I ran with the local running club.  I started out running with Blond Ripped Super Woman but I knew it was only a matter of time before she would streak away from me.  The plan after that was just to try to keep her somewhere in sight.  10.1 miles at 8:26 pace for me. 10.1 miles at 7:56 pace for her.  That is a good, strong MP run for me - with most miles in the 8:10's and 8:20's - some miles flirting at Tempo.

I'm about as ready for the hills/mountains and altitude as a flatlander who trains at sea level can be!  The plan is to Have Fun and whatever running I can manage will be Fine.

Holly, you’re quite the traveler these days. Have fun.

So Mike’s version of “going slow” is a 3:29 marathon and 3rd place? Shocked Congrats!

Byll’s post with the Ragnar team lineup brought back memories!  Great to see those folks still running.  And remember: mountains means cooler!

Enke’s working yard sales into her runs.  Is that cross-training?

Carolyn—three tries to pass a driver’s test?  Not exactly a confidence builder, is it? Joking (Those hills are all mental; go as slow as you need to and you can do it.)

Mari—“6 effortless, relaxed and timeless miles” Smile

        15.3 mile character-building run.

        Hot, humid, and dead calm.

I’ve got character coming out of my ears now.

        Be safe. Be kind.

I actually thought I posted something yesterday but I must have forgotten to hit the "Post" button.  Roll eyes  Ok, take two.

Mike E. congratulations on the 3rd and getting along with your DS so far!  Especially the latter.

wildchild training at 9600'!  Shocked  When do you run the Mt. Everest marathon?  Remember to post a race report afterwards!  Also, congratulations to your insurance company on your DD passing her driver's test!

I tried running yesterday.  Still no can do.  My Achilles tendon just will not take the pounding as yet.  Sad  Man is this one slow healing process!  Who the heck invented these biological repair systems anyway?  Angry  I then tried to go on the elliptical and could not bring myself to do it.  So, I just went out for a walk.  I think it was a good idea.  Today I went on the elliptical and it was a lot less painful.  The day off really helped mentally and perhaps physically as well.

Big breakfast is weighing me down but somehow I am going to get out for a run today.  Its our 28th anniversary and we both had the same idea for breakfast.  "Moons Over My Hammy" at Denny's.  Just a mere 990 calories when you include the side of hash browns.  We haven't been to Denny's in close to 10 years so if was odd we both were thinking the same thing.

When we moved to Houston back in 1999, we stayed at an apartment complex until our house was ready.  Across the street was a Denny's.  That's where we first learned of the great Moon sandwich.

I am really just checking in to tell Holly to make sure she hits the Kurt Vonnegut museum in Indianapolis.  I saw it on TV a few weeks ago and I've been wanting to visit ever since then.  I started rereading some of his books to be better prepared for my eventual visit.  Maybe next month since we've been invited to a friends' 25th anniversary party down that way.  It probably isn't a kid type of activity, although I was introduced to some of his short stories as far back as 5th grade. (Or was it 7th grade?  My memory is very fuzzy beyond 10 minutes ago.)

               Big grin

I think all the elliptical training is giving twocat great character. Not that he needs any, him being our king of patience and all. BTW, twocat, I don't think I am going to get a 20  miler before the race from my DS. Just three weeks out.

Late morning in bed here. We watched "Man of Honor" last night. What a great movie. Will run later, but first I have to go back and write a narrative of my race, then play in the garden.

              Welcome back Holly.

Go racers gooooooooo!!! I sure hope Ileneforward has fun in her double race weekend.

Have a grand day you all.

Happy anniversary to you and your beautiful bride Dave.    Spareribs

Mike, congrats on your fast marathon and 3rd OA.  I'm looking forward to hearing about #2 and how your trip is going with your son.  Holly, it sounds like you're being your normal "Energizer Bunny"  taking off on a family trip after your NOLA trip and 4.5 hours sleep.  Enjoy your weekend.  Dave, happy anniversary.  re. the picture: the hair looks great for 1983.

Nice long runs for lame, breger, and Tramps.  Good job on the speedwork for CNY and perch (hill repeats).

This morning, it was in the mid 50s, there was a light breeze, it was overcast, and I encountered a few sprinkles.  I got in 8 miles in about 1:24:30 for a 10:33 pace.

A good day and good runs for all.

Grrrreat run.  10.1 miles.  First double digit run since foot surgery last July.  First 30+ mile week since March 2010.  Drop in the bucket around here, but I'll take it any day.  20 or over is always a good week for me.

I'll take down the old photos after a day or two.  Someone asked me about getting married so I scanned in a couple old photos to show him, and since I had them handy, I thought I'd put them out on the web for a few days to bug Cindy a little.  Don't know why she cares.  She's a real looker.

MikeE - A 3:29 while taking it easy!  That is amazing.  Congratulations.  And today we'll be hearing about race #2 I suppose?  Hope it is going as good or better.

Just a quick update--my son is really being pretty good. I was running late getting back to the motel and he had everything packed and ready to go. It was nice. I ran a 3:25:16--good for 6th OA and 1st in AG. I'm happy with that.

                      Carolyn

Sweet, Mike!  Congrats.  Win anything good?

Holly, you're such a slacker.    No run?  Roll eyes Wink

                        Happy Anniversary, Dave!

Tramps, thanks. I took the hill slow and ran all the way up today!  Although I did take a few walk breaks here and there on the rest of my run...  1.5 miles with the dogs, then another 5.5 to make it 7 for the day.  Too hot to take them further.  65° and cloudy to start but then the evil sun came out.

We're going to an outdoor concert tonight at Red Rocks Amphitheater - one of the prettiest venues anywhere.  We're going to see Guster and Big Head Todd and the Monsters.  Guster is the opening act and the ones we really want to see.  Hope Big Head Todd is okay - they're a Colorado blues band.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

Holly makes my life look boring....It isn't.

Love the "Have Fun" attitude Byll.

A walk is good Two Cat. Every step counts.

Happy 28th Dave!! Marriage rocks!! Have any pictures of the "Great Moon" sandwich??..The mind is drifting to the gutter here.

                            SHeesh Mike...I mean...We;; done!!

                            Big Head Todd!!! Sweet!!!!!

3.5 trail miles for Tag and I. He grabbed a stick...No surprise there..It had at least one good thorn in it. I freaked when he came towards me and his mouth and chin were red!! Ugh. It was simply a small poke that juiced a lot. He got ice cream for his playful, HTFU demeanor.

Near crisis here...DW has a birthday next week. What rhymes with couscous, veneer and Charlevouix?

Great job Mike, pretty speedy for the 2d one in two days!! It sounds like the trip with you DS is going ok too.   Holly, glad you got home in one piece.

We got DD all graduated.  She sat on stage because of Student Council so that was cool. Adam Sandler spoke; his nephew was in DD's class. He was funny, as was the principal. Little family party here after with catered sandwiches and salads and I cake I made.  DD and DS are off visiting a former babysitter now and then she is off to party.  Tiring day...

Quick 6.5 this morning in cool showery weather. Downright cold and rainy the rest of the day.

I am sure we will hear the war story from Avenger Doggie....
