Masters Running

Sunday 18 Jan (Read 35 times)

I don't know when I've started a thread.  I haven't posted since Tuesday.  Thursday and Friday, I worked the semiannual shoe sale I've done in the past.  I joined with the approximately 250 regular and sales staff (about 100 on duty at the same time).  Thursday, we sold over 3200 pairs of shoes and something like 2500 pairs of running socks.  Today, I have a 7 hour shift scheduled.  It's lots of fun.

tomw, good luck with the store.  There have been a lot of long runs: tet (marathon ?), Twocat, DrRobin, CnY, wild, Mike, and fatozzig.

Yesterday, I did a 5K called "Freeze Your Fanny".  It was in the low 20s and real windy.  My showing wasn't too spectacular, but I did it.  My Garmin had me at 32:21, 10:21 pace, and a distance of 3.12 miles.  I was 66/108 OA and 2/2 in my AG (70+).  I saw a lot of my friends and did a mile warmup and 1.9 miles afterwards to get 6 miles for the day.

A good day and good runs for all.

    TomS

I did Frosty's Frozen Five Mile yesterday, part of a couple race series as well as RRCA state championship, so I knew there would be good competition. First three miles were about as planned, right at 6:00 pace and I tucked into a pack of about 4-5 other runners. We turned around just before 3 with a tail wind but nearly 200' elevation gain. I figured I'd drop that pack but within a few 10ths of a mile it was me who fell back.

30:23, 2nd Grand Master 25th overall. The guy who won was in that pack, turns out he's state record holder for half marathon in our age group. Okay, good competition alright. Overall winner was 2013 USATF XC champ, Joe Gray, who finished way out ahead, so that was fun to see on the course, which was along the Platte River, out and back but on different sides of the river (you in the East, South, and Midwest would call it a creek).

      10 for the day.

Today, 2.5 - 3 hr XC ski planned.

        Good morning everybody!

        ...but I did it.

Yes, you did!   You always impress me, Tom.

Speaking of impressive--nice race Trackrat!  I'll bet the guys who are used to wining races around your area are wondering where you came from.  It must be fun for you.

I got another 10 hour sleep, last night...okay it was 9:50...but, man...two nights in a row of a lot of sleeping.  You'd think I'd feel all energized and raring to go...nope.

This should be another fund day of football.  May the best teams win.

Okay--that's it--gotta get to church.  See ya!

...tet//........the Japanese Franchise Idea sounds good..........how do you say ''Do You Want Fries With that?''.......

          An Observation-

          Our Bodies are Odd Things,

          having

          done my poolrun,

          I managed

to get a Bi-Lateral BackSpasm from Hell

which made me skip my Highly Anticipated BikeRide this morning.

          lately

I just get recovered enough to go back  to work on Mondays and spend a LOT of my off-time on the floor using my TENS Unit.

..........I am Sooooooooo ready to get this hip replaced,

maybe there's an Online ''How To'' website so I can do it myself.

..........anywho..........Good Running to the rest of you......

          ..........ps..............Meh

..nothing takes the place of persistence.....

..........I am Sooooooooo ready to get this hip replaced,

+1 on the odd body statement. Mine kept telling me it didn't want to run this morning and that usually leads to bad things. A nasty run with a LOT of walk breaks, but it was an incredibly warm 35° so even walking was awesome. Do you have your hip surgery scheduled Tom? My brother had it last year and he said he feels like a new person.

Speaking of bodies, you must be fighting something off Mike. Do you take any vitamins or other supplements?

Nice racing for Tom and Trackrat!

We had our work Christmas party last night. A white elephant exchange was included which was fun, until I ended up with this really creepy looking stuffed clown. DH got a car mirror. We tried to discretely leave them at the restaurant, but my co-workers wouldn't hear of it

Not expecting good things in the playoff game today, but hope it's at least competitive. Hi Tet!!

Great start Tselbs and you are a running and racing machine. Awesome!

Oh dear, TW please don't do a home hip replacement even if you do find some great YouTube tutorials! I know you wouldn't, but I am sure it's dang tempting. Bodies are odd indeed!

Ack! Jlynne...I think I would have tossed the freaky clown. Not sure why they freak me out so much, just do. (Behave all you clown posters!)

So glad I ran early this morning (15 miles). Pouring rain here now and temps still in the 20s....Say it in unison with me: SHEER ICE EVERYWHERE! I am so glad I don't need to go anywhere in my car....scary out there folks.

So there I was last night with three of my teammates pulling into a parking spot outside the USATF New England awards banquet. I looked over at the car next to me and then looked again at whiplash speed. It was Henry and Marj!!! They ARE really and truly everywhere. What a fabulous and lovely treat to see you two last night. My teammates, Vanessa (who some of you met at VT50), Ashley (All terrain specialist and Mountain runner), and Dana (XC series Masters champion and two time OT marathon runner) were happy to meet and see you too. I felt all cool that I knew folks! Big props to your club Henry and Marj. The WMDP women plan to be there in 40 years as well.

Is there any football on today? HA, HA!

My first thought was also "tselbs started the thread?". Good racing, Tom! Your overall placing was excellent and you know there's always one super-athlete in your AG that you'll never beat, so 2nd is great.

Ran 6 around the lake this morning in deteriorating conditions. Just in the hour I was out there, I started out at mid-30s and light misting, which was great for my first outdoor run in at least a month. About halfway around it started lightly raining, and by the 4-mile mark it was more sleet than rain. The temperature was also dropping, and in the last mile some parts of the path that had just been wet when I started were already glazing over and I had a couple of slips before I finished. Then it was snowing when I left the parking lot. Whew! Glad that was over.

Going to a friend's house later for a football-watching party. Guess I'll have to pull for Green Bay since they're in our division.

I disagree with CNY.  There should be a good YouTube on hip replacements. I say go for it.

                  Well done tselbs. Good racing.

                  Nice pace Trackrat.

8 for the Saint, and 6 for me.  Nothing like easing into it. She ran with a buddy of mine after I turned at 3 miles, so she got 5 more miles of a very quick pace. Proud of her.  Spareribs

                    Mornin' (barely) everyone!

Lots of good running in all kinds of weather this morning, and excellent race reports from Tselbes and ATrackrat! Congrats on selling so many shoes, Tom, and on the 2nd GM, ATrackrat.

Sounds like you needed the sleep, Mike - I'm glad you got it.

I'm so sorry about the Bl BS, TW. Hang in there... If you're going to do your own hip replacement, I suggest you sharpen the blade on your knife, and have plenty of numbing stuff (hard liquor) nearby.

JLynne, where are those gifts now??

Yet another M&H sighting. They ARE everywhere!

I went for 6.5 RW miles at Jay o'clock this morning, and then stretched, had some breakfast and headed to the indoor track where I did another 4.24 RW miles before folks showed up for today's racewalking clinic/training session. I made everybody work pretty hard this morning, but everyone learned something about racewalking and about themselves, so it was a good session. I'm beat, but I have to help DW make tonight's dinner concoction, and finish this weekend's computer project. But I'll bet there is also room for a quick nap in there as well.

                    Have a greta Sunday!

Still enjoying the CNY sighting yesterday.  Our side of the story - I looked at the car and said to Henry - "Isn't that Karin? and it was!"  The real benefit of being in the NE 65+ runners club - first group at the food table - they didn't want to keep Lou Peters, our 90 yo runner waiting>  Our 70 president, received an award for the national 5k record and is pending a world record for 5k, 22 minutes I think.

Ran 8 miles on commonwealth bumping into Henry on the way back.  Hoping to see Robin, but she wasn't around.  Followed up our runs with going to a 90 minute talk on Jews and Hollywood (first of 3)

great racing by tselbs and atrackrat, and lots of good running/walking for others.  the rains have just started here and it's warm, but doesn't feel warm.  ice and snow begone!  TW - hip replacement made all the difference to my brother and other people I know - granted they are not DIYers

Great that you got to see Karin, too.

TomS - you are tough, out there at races in all conditions, well done!

                        ATrackrat - speedy 5K!

TomWhite - do you have it scheduled?

16 miles for me today in 35 windy degrees - a little too warm in one direction and a little too cold in the other, but it balanced out.  I was happy that a few days of warmer temps had melted the icy bike path.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

                        Trails are hard!

No worries about freezing around here at the moment--42F and a nice drizzle.  I think it will be a very nice day for sitting on the comfy couch and watching football, rather than being at the stadium.

I enjoyed my first above freezing run in a while this morning--6-1/4 miles in 32f at the start and 36 at the end.  Much better pace than the 4 in the snow on Friday.

I've already gotten a FB razzy from a friend who lived near Green Bay for many years for telling her that I was rooting for the Packers, too.  Because I felt the Pats would have a better chance at beating them in the SB.  Although in reality GB is probably my second favorite team.

Around here we call that a Yankee swap.  I got burned a couple of years ago when I wasn't around to pick just and left a gift.  I ended up with a book called "Who shat that? A field guide to poo".  I put it back in the next year, but stuck a Dunky gift card in to temper the disappointment.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

                          Tramps

I'm with Ribs; there's a DIY YouTube video for everything, Tom. We've just found out that my MIL will be having two hip replacements--one at a time.  Don't know if she's considered the YouTube option.

                            Nice racing from TomS, Trackrat,

Pouring rain this morning but cleared up nicely for a warm 6-miler before the games start.

                            Go Pats, go Packers!

                            Be safe. Be kind.

Whine away, although I don't consider it whining when you're in pain and the answer is out there but unattainable until other life issues are resolved.  Hang in there!

No running for me today, but it was "Date Morning" with The Hub, which means we went grocery shopping.  Not sure it gets more romantic than that.

Question - Anybody else have the Garmin 310XT?  I can't get it to upload here, at Strava, and I can't even get Garmin to recognize it.  I know that if we use Garmin Express, RA can't be used, but right now I can't get it to upload anywhere.  It's very frustrating.
