Those wild little Mongolian horses can fly...
Not run related, but as you probably know by now my DD, Devan is in the Mongol Derby again this year. Here are two links. By way of an intro, she’s done a few trail Ultras (including RR100 last Feb) and does lots and lots of trails on horseback (she and I have somewhat matching belt buckles from Tevis / Western States).
Live Tracker – this also includes a Twitter commentary.

The Jibber – they post a daily summary, list where everyone is at the end of riding for the day and stunning photos. At this time it isn’t updated but I guess it will be once things start.

Fingers crossed.

OMG that is so cool! Makes me wish I still rode. I have a retina condition and riding is too dangerous anymore.
I lost my rama

YES. Since the le Tour de France has been over I've been waiting to follow Devan at the Mongol Derby.
Hope she drinks plenty of fluids and keeps her food in her stomach this year.
“Paralysis-to-50k” training plan is underway!
Yeah that would be good. She's using a hydropak for water plus a small bottle for HEED (she's also got a bunch of gels and s-caps). It looks like it might be cooler this year 70s during the day and 50s at night. Of course that also depends on the quality of the food they get at the Urtuus.
Are we there, yet?
Thanks for the links. I'll be tracking her again this year and looking for updates from you.

Watched the Movie on Hulu the other night. Those Mongols are hands. Can't say they got a lot of rein on those ponies, but they can sure ride 'em....Making a bookmark now,,....

I "Stickied" this to the top so it will be easy to find.
FaceBook Page with pics and updates as well.
I was checking out the race website and found it interesting that the vast majority of riders are from the US and Australia.
wcrunner, yeah it's interesting this year, there are usually more folks from the UK.
Aug 8: Riders and horses put on hold. The start of the Mongol Derby delayed by one day due to technical difficulties, I think the GPS tracker system was down (needed for safety reasons). Devan's in those colorful chaps, as always.
Looks like a pretty good storm is brewing also.
If the trackers were working they would have been riding well before the storm hit. Lucky break as that would have been interesting to say the least. The first year Devan did it she said the hail was quite painful, but they kept riding.
Very cool pics. I was wondering when I checked this morning they weren't moving very far. Hope they get it sorted out and started. I'm sure all the racers' nerves are on edge.
Looks like the race has started.... Go Devan!
