Trail Tuesday (Read 15 times)

LB2

7.5 miles this morning. Nothing particularly interesting to report. It was just a normal run.

QOTD: How often do you have a white Christmas?

Being in Louisiana, I have never had a white Christmas. We have had snow in December, but it was like December 8th or so. We also have snow more frequently now than we did when I was growing up.

    Are we there, yet?

Finally got in to see my doctor and she ordered an x-ray and MRI of my ankle, as well as a referral to a foot/ankle specialist.  It could take weeks before the MRI can be scheduled, but the x-ray showed an osseous avuncular fracture, i.e. the tendon on the inside of my ankle has pulled away a small fragment of the bone.  She's also order no running, so I'll be doing a lot more walking as long as that doesn't bother my ankle. No estimates yet on a time frame for healing and a return to running. Setting up my race schedule for next year is indefinitely on hold.

       2024 Races:

            03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles

            05/11 - D3 50K, 9:11:09
            05/25 - What the Duck 12-Hour

            06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour.

WC - That sucks!  What would make the tendon pull so hard on the bone that it pulls away a fragment?  Dang . . .

Gatsby - I had reached out to Karen about starting up with her coaching again.  Did you know her father passed away around Thanksgiving?  She obviously is struggling and is considering cutting back on coaching for awhile.

4 chilly predawn miles with 6 x 15 sec hill repeats.  The almost full moon was big and beige and sitting just on the horizon.  Very cool.

QOTD: Never had a white Christmas.  I grew up on the central coast of CA and am now on the coast in Northern CA (about 1.5 hrs from the CA/OR state line).  Never got snow in Cambria, and it's only snowed 3 or 4 times in the 35 years we've lived here.  That being said, it snows on Kneeland every year (a mountain we can see from our front door) and about 30 min inland it always snows, so it's at least close by.

4 last night on the trails of Coventry Woods preserver with Baker last night. I was struck how dark it was at first, but we were on the north/shady side of the big hill so the sun had set there. Once we neared the top we had more daylight. Sort of a slog of a run. Could not get any traction or momentum going up the 2 mile climb and that carried over to the rest of the run. So cut it short at 4 instead of the intended 5. No biggie.

Cold and rainy right now. 39 with rain. I had thought about a lunchtime run but am taking a pass. It may turn out to be a no run day.

QOTD: We do get a white Christmas now and then but I do not recall the last one. I could probably find if I checked all my running logs.

WCrunner - Sorry about the injury. Hope you are back on the road/trail early in the new year.

Gatsby - Bummer on WS again. I never got in myself either. Not sure how many tickets I had my last time, 16 maybe?

In dog beers, I've only had one.

Took a day off from running yesterday but did spend some time on the rower. Also did some weights and core work. Having been somewhat of a slacker while off to Florida has made the weight workout a little harder than it used to seem. Shouldn't take too long though.  Gonna be heading out to the bike path and get 5-6 miles in shortly. Nice winter day here, calm and about 22F.

QOTD--I've had a couple winters here without snow. I remember one Christmas in Madison where it was about 60F and we played croquet. But otherwise we are always in some degree of snow especially up here where I live now. About 6" on the ground currently--our real accumulations usually don't start till after Jan 1.

                My kind of guy!

WC- here's hoping to a speedy recovery!

4 miles x-country skiing w/ DW, left Tiny E home as we went to the local golf course and it sees pretty good use and didn't want him to get run over

qotd: That's the one thing you can count on here!  I cannot recall ever not having at least some snow on the ground, this year the percent of a white Christmas is 100% :)

Got up and did 10 mi this morning. It was pretty warm although with a light sprinkle of rain the last 2 miles so that helped, but it was a slow slog.

wc: well that sucks. My DD had that, but it was a small chip out of the cuboid bone in her foot. It took a while if rests, ice, and then exercise to heal.

qotd: I was just putting up some X-mass lights around our front door. It’s 80° and 78% humidity and now I need a freaking shower I was sweating so much. We don’t have white Christmases around here.

Yesterday was a rest day, and today became an unplanned rest day. It rained off and on all day, and it started again just before the brewery group run.  Now my plan is to get up early tomorrow and run before work.

qotd: Well, almost always growing up in MN, never here in MD-DC. We usually leave for the midwest on the 25th, so we see it there. Like NH said, most of the snow usually comes in January. And I'll be back then to help my mom after her knee surgery. I've been shopping for snow shoes....

WC, that’s a bummer, sorry to hear it.

Fatozzig, I did hear that Karen’s dad passed away.  I thinking was unexpected, even though he’d had some health issues. I didn’t know she was cutting back on coaching. That’s too bad, but it sounds like she needs time to process everything.

QOTD: no white Christmas here. The higher mountains get dusted with snow occasionally, but that’s about it.

                      Easy 5.5 miles today.
