I ran 4.5 miles on the treadmill this morning. It was wu, 2miles at HM pace, cd. Trying to stay fit and not loose my sanity before the marathon Saturday morning. I feel good.

Good to see new people here. You'll like this one guys. I had quit running and started smoking a pipe. Yup. Somehow got bit by that bug. I love it, had one last night. Ran yesterday for the first time in a month. Ugh. My wind was cut just a little bit. It'll be an occasional pleasure I think.

I can never seem to give up the trails completely.

      ...---...

Hi all - although I've been out of the loop for a while (new jobs really suck the life out of you...well, except for Leslie maybe), I've kept up by reading the posts and everyone's adventures. 2010 for me will be the year of the trail Ultra. I like marathons alright (and will do 2 or 3 this next year) but the road is simply killing me. I'm still astounded by how much better I felt the day after a 50K trail run as opposed to any of the road marathons I've done.

        -

But I digress. My work travels usually keep me bound to city streets but I have managed to get out and explore a few trails here and there. Not much to report on my end but just wanted everyone to know I'm still here, if at least in spirit.

No comment.   . . . but as always, good to hear from you.

Runner - Yep, I agree with staying off the roads as much as possible.  Can you say, "they suck"?

Flower - Good luck this weekend.

I'm MIA for a short time and I come back to find Greg smoking a pipe!!!  I'm with Leslie-no comment!  You know better.

My class is almost done, the boys have begun basketball, I'm running OK.  I did a 12m-ish trail run last Sunday that didn't do me much good.  I was hoping to be back up to 20s by January for my long runs but it's not looking good.  My head and my heart have been a mess which isn't helping either.

Good to see some new names popping in-welcome!  I haven't put together a race plan for next year yet.  My original idea was two 100 milers but I'm worried about not recovering from the first in time for the second.  I also would have to start building in January for an early summer 100 which right now doesn't seem possible-big sigh....

Hope everyone has a good day-going skiing for the first time this season tomorrow-yeah!

Kelly, what 100's are you thinking of doing?

I want to do the Pinhoti 100. I've wanted to do it for the last two years but things have gotten in the way, like cigars and whiskey. Think I'll plan on doing it this year. I want to do the Highlands Sky 40 miler in WV or the Laurel Highlands 70 miler in June then set sights on the Pinhoti. I have a friend who wants to ride his bike in the VT50 while I do the run, so I may plan on that one too.

Enjoyed a real nice pipe last night. A blend from my local tobacconist. Goes real nice with some Old Granddad over ice. Mmmm......

I smoked a pipe for a long time and love it.  I got enough nicotine from it that I ended up smoking cigarettes too whenever I was out and the pipe was inappropriate.  Be careful with that.

Buddo - Tsk, tsk, tsk.  That's all I'm gonna say about it.

Yesterday did 14 trail miles, and although my legs were tired at the end, I felt surprisingly good the entire time.  Coach even commented toward the end that he was pleased with the stamina I was showing.  Today was 12 road miles, which also went surprisingly good.  Tomorrow, thankfully, is a rest day . . . . because I got the crap beat outta me at a massage today!!!  Holy crap!  I've never had such a rough massage before, and I have to say, it wasn't that enjoyable.  Real nice lady.  A former client at my old job, but I doubt I'll go back to her.

Got our new bed last night.  Oh man, what a great night's sleep!  The Hub is gone this weekend, so I took up the entire bed.  He may have to find somewhere else to sleep from now on.

                            Imminent Catastrophe

                              Buddo,

I worked an aid station at the Pinhoti this year, it really seems to be a well-organized event. Tough, though, lots and lots of rooty, rocky, hilly singletrack.

I'm working it the other direction. I started out  with chewing tobacco as a young boy playing baseball but that didn't last long. Then, I smoked cig's as a teenager then quit when it winded me too bad so as I couldn't surf. Then I switched to dip or snuff which was VERY hard to quit due to the concentrated nicotine dose. Plus, I worked outside and could dip round the clock. I've quit that for the last 15 years then started with the cigars couple years ago. I like them, but they reek and aren't too convenient to smoke. They last a long time. A pipe I can really appreciate the tobacco without being an addict and enjoy the sensations it gives me as a clean, simple, pleasure. Lovin it so far. Thanks for the warning though.
