Funny.... Russ is a friend of mine... you know him too? Small world!
I don't know him aside from seeing him at races and such. It seems a little strange, but I've found myself becoming a sort of fan of some local runners, and his runs are awfully impressive. He wrote up a report here http://indianatrailrunning.ning.com/

Happy Holidays Everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. I'm fine. I'm home with the boys tonight-we went to Stowe today. The skiing and snowboarding was great! We haven't got a lot of snow but it's been cold enough for the snow guns to be blasting non-stop for days. The boys are both asleep already and I just have a couple presents left to wrap before I go to bed myself. Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Holiday and New Year! I haven't forgotten you.
I've been running a bit-I'm shooting for 2600 miles for the year. If I run a little bit every day I'll get there. I did well in my Human Biology class-got an A-. I'm signed up for Intro to Health Psychology for next semester.
Take care! Kelly
Sorry I didn't catch up on the thread to be more specific but congrats Leslie on your 50k PR! I did read your report on the ultra thread. I haven't come up with a race schedule for next year yet-it's on my to do list.

Can't wait to get the hydration pack out for a trail run this weekend.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

...by the way, what gaiter do you all use...or what's your favorite?
Oh, there is only one! Dirty Girls are the best. I haven't tried many, but I don't need to. Look around at races...they are ubiquitous. They get the job done, look cool, and cost $15 with S&H.

Another vote for Dirty Girls gaiters.
Happy holidays everyone! My son got me a new insulated water bottle from Camelbac - a very different type of insulation - look here. Mine has a pink hand strap/key pocket, too. I'm excited to try it. I've had an extremely durable Nathan brand insulated handheld for over 4 years, and the drinking spout is getting very gunky.
I also got a Tikka headlamp - with the promise (from my husband) of some regularly scheduled night runs. Very fun.

It's a catching name for a name brand - easy to remember; I'll remember it when I need a pair of Gaiters. So far, have not invested in one. Guess I'm not a REAL Dirty Girl, yet

Explored a different trail today - a big YAHOO for me, please! I've been wanting to go to this park and explore the trails there forever but have not been able to kick my own butt into gear until today. Long drive to get there, up late, had to stop and double check my map a few times to make sure I was on the right trail - didn't have time to stay there and get lost. Was only able to get 7. some odd miles in today because I had to get back to other obligations. But it's all good - I have now broken the ice, I know how to get there in the car, and I know the marking system a little better (trails are not very well marked). Now it has me hungry to go back for more.
P.S. Did I mention the mud? I am a Dirty Girl indeed! After heavy rainfall and flooding it was very wet and slippery on the trails today.
Hi Peeps! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Ours was very, very low key. Was suppose to have my Pops over for dinner tonight, but he begged off not feeling well.
Kelly - Great to see you, girlfriend! Congrats on the expected mileage.
Friday, Coach and I met up at 6:30 to get in our trail run. We ended up having a really great time. Only had to use our headlamps and his flashlight for about 45 minutes, it wasn't really cold, barely anyone else out there. We stayed with the "easier" trails (mental eye roll), and busted out 20 miles in 4:55, which included 2 bathroom stops and 2 "aid station" stops (our packs with extra fluid and food hidden in the bushes). Woo hoo! Our last 1+ mile, we were really pushing it in order to make the 20 in less than 5 hrs. This included really pushing the speeding walking/running on the hills. It was a blast. Last weekend, it took us 5 hrs to do 18 miles, which included 3 aid station stops, doggie water stops, and a prolonged bathroom stop.
Completed 14 yesterday, and around Mile 7, I realized I was having problems. I would say a combination of not good recovery eating yesterday, and not getting in enough fuel on this run. By the time I got to the health club around Mile 9.5 to use the bathroom - ugh! So I stopped at Safeway and grabbed a Clif bar (yuck!) and ate about half of it while I walked a short way. Mile 14 was fairly ugly, so was about the next hour at home. I grabbed a large glass of milk w/Olvaltine and sucked it down, then shook my way through a breakfast burrito and banana over the next hour. I haven't been able to stop eating since. . . . . . I hate these types of lessons. The Hub said if I'd called he would've come and picked me up, and I thought about it at one point. Also thought about waving down the cop who drove by and begging a ride. But if I didn't gut this out, how do I gut it out in April when I'm at Mile 40 and want to quit?
Now nothing 'til Tuesday.

Make sure you get to http://www.dirtygirlgaiters.com/. If you just put in "dirtygirls," you end up in a porn site.
Leslie, How do I get to the porn site?
Just leave out "gaiters"!!
That was easy! Thanks for all your help.....
BTW, it sounds like your training runs are going very well. Way to start the new year - please, keep up the good work and update us frequently; it is inspiring to hear about your runs - I need the inspiration in order to get on with it myself.
