Home Away From Home

Michael - Mine's available if you are talking about going to Hampton, and if you don't mind that I will be finishing later due to the 20 vs. 13.1. And you won't have to jump. I will come to a complete stop so you don't hurt yourself for the race. I have room for 3 more if people don't mind being tight.
L- I am up for the Y at 0700 if that works for you. I am just glad to get the ride. If you decide to scratch that for one of the other many options just let me know so I can re-adjust. Thanks Michael

Michael - If that works for you, that's what I'll plan on , unless someone else comes up with something specific. I sort of think even the other options would involve me driving to Hampton in any case. I'm hoping this was discussed on trhis evening's run.

      "Beep, Beep!"

Talking with Rick, Greg and Michael we made a tentative plan about the half marathoners meeting at Shaw;s Pkg Lot in Sanford at 8:30 on Sunday and plan to take two cars. One for half start line, other for casino. The proposed plan is to drop one car at Casino and then all travel to half start. Rick is concerned about rain and having to wait outside for two hours for start of race if we use bus. After race we would run to casino and pick up car. Can this work for Lance?

Life's journey is not to arrive safely to the grave in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!

No, but that's OK. The last bus boards at Hampton at 8:45 and you guys will be well later than that. That's not a problem, like Rick said, it's a lot of waiting around for you at the beginning going that early. It could potentially work for you guys to just take one car to Wallis Sands and then I would drive you back from the Casino. Just a thought. Either way, my plan at the beginning doesn't change, and I'll plan on going down alone.

Thanks, Lance, for creating this site. Yes, as you noted, I am doing the half, and I am looking for someone who is planning to run a 7:15 pace. If I have a pacer/coach to run with, I will have a chance of qualifying for Corral B in Chicago. As an incentive, I will pay the entry fee for anyone who is capable and willing to run a 7:15 pace with me for the half. Please spread the word! -Greg McCullough, 651-2770

Older, slower, and trying to keep up with Tall Dave.

L- I want to thank you for the invite but I am going to go down witht the 8:30 crew since I don't have as a tight a schedule as you. Thanks again for the offer though. Michael

Hello everybody, It sounds like thing are working out. I talked to Paul B. today. He is going to be the designated driver and not race. He said he could offer services(such as a change of shirts during race) if he knows what. So, Laurie who is going to pace Lance, Lance, and Kristen seem to be doing the 20. I think they can stay in the Traip Academy gym if it is raining or in Paul's vehicle. Michael, Greg, Tall Dave, and I will meet at the Shaw's parking lot at 0830 and drive directly to Wallis Sands State Park. That way we will have someplace to get under cover if it is raining. I'll ask Paul if he can take one or all to the State Park after the race.

It's a plan... Thanks for coordinating the details! Now which shirt will I wear?

Rick - I don't mean to be dumb (I guess I can't help it). Am I NOT supposed to go to Hampton? Is Paul driving us all the way back to Traip?

I am really looking forward to this weather. Angry

Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Sunday: Rain. High near 51. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 50%. UGH... At least we won't get too HOT!

That's where I'm stuck though. I don't want to wear a jacket, because I'll get hot and it will be heavy. Maybe something I could wear and toss after a few miles if it's raining at the start. But then what - compression shirt under WC singlet with compression tights, a hat and bodyglide on all imaginable body parts is what I'm thinking.

Hey kids...so many worries...so little time... Bring a hat & large trash bag...or cheap/thin throw away pancho...works for rainy marathons. For anyone taking the bus...there will be a bag-check...so you will have dry clothes at the finish no matter when you finish...not sure if this option is available to all or not...anyone know? Note: Doubling back to the Ashworth is an option for those wanting a cool-down after the half...maybe 2-3 miles?? Temps sound decent...rain shouldn't be too cold...suggest wearing dry-fit socks though...if you have them... I'm still nursing my hammy, but if the 4-miler goes well on Sat....may still plan to be at the half. Good luck to all...

Lance, you may only drive to Kittery, so you can have somewhere to stay warm. You can still leave your car at Hampton and take the bus. that way you will not need a ride back. It is totally up to you.. The best for you may be the bus. I don't think the halfers want to hang around after the race, especially if it is raining throughout the race and the need for dry clothes.
