Notes

I was planning on taking this race out in around 4:25-4:30 pace, but Pollux approached me before the race and said he was interested in 4:20 pace. I didn't know what to think about that and mentioned that I probably wouldn't feel comfortable leading at that pace. Pollux said he wanted to try it and I was hoping to hang on as long as I could. We got out pretty quick and kind of let Pollux ease in front of me and got right into 2nd behind him. The pace felt pretty good to start and I was trying to not think about the pace too much. The 809 split was about 2:13 which was pretty close to pace and I was glad we weren't any faster because I could tell I was already starting to get tight. I did my best to stay with Pollux through the next quarter but could tell he was inching away and probable ended up getting a couple steps to a meter ahead of me at one point. At the bell I tried to surge back and give myself a chance at the end. I got back up to Pollux with about 100 to go. I came off the last corner and gave it whatever I had left and Pollux battled me right to the line. I tried to give a really good lean and overdid it a little bit because after crossing the line I realized I had no way to recover and decided to turn and hit the track on my shoulder as opposed to my face. I feel kind of dumb out hitting the track since I didn't really mean to do that and I feel bad for kicking past Pollux after he led the entire race so well. At the same time I know I couldn't have helped at all through the 2nd half of the race and am glad we were both able to run some solid times. Not to mention the Luther guys that were right behind us as well.

Note: I just went back and looked up my time mile time from last chance my senior year and found out I ran 4:21.40. So I was .01 away from a PR on a 200 meter track.
