Notes
Felt tired after the bike but not wasted. Started out with a goal of running 8min miles for the first half. At mile 4 my stomach started hurting, filling with gas, ribs, sternum, lower back, all gradually increasing in pain. By mile 6 I was forced into a 5 min run 3 min walk which continued for the remainder of the race. When I was able to run, I could hold 7:45 to 8min pace with no problem, but the jarring was agony on my ribs/low back. Dumped the race belt at 10 miles which helped a bit.
The issues I believe were, oatmeal for breakfast with too much sugar, fuel bottle mixed way too rich, bike position was very low so digestion was difficult, swallowed a bunch of air during the swim. Most of this I can fix, sucks that it all occured on race day!
Just so I remember, I started the day weighing 164 and finished the race weighing 148. Ate a ton and still only gained back 6lbs by the next morning. I also believe if I had the right breakfast and fuel on the course (no stomach problems) that I was more than capable of a 3:30 marathon. In the end, I don't think I could have been more happy then I was finishing with Conrad. That made the day, for sure.
