oh, man. oh man. man oh man.

I can understand exactly what people mean now when they say running a marathon is an emotional experience. This was just a mock 10k and I still felt like crying at the end.

The track was cool today. Walked in and felt the chill air and I felt good about it. Started off slightly faster than I wanted, but dialed it down before the first mile was over (8:34). Up until the end of the third mile I just kept telling myself "dude, this feels tough but it's ok. just make it to 5k. you can stop after 5k and be totally happy with that."

Then I got to 5k (25:53) and I still felt amazing. I realized I was half done and I still felt pretty much fine, so what would be the harm in trying for another mile? I'd already done as much as I was expecting myself to do, so any additional mile was just icing on the cake.

Got to the end of the 4th mile and still felt fine. Then the end of the fifth...started to get a bit of a small stitch in my side, but a few deep breaths would fix that. End of the 5th and I still felt good, but started thinking about calling it quits. I told myself "Evan, just another half mile." Then that was done, and i told myself "ok, just get to 6miles. then you can drop the pace and run the last two laps as cool-downs." But then when you've run 6 miles, what's another 2 laps? Sprinted the last lap in 57seconds. I probably could have kept going, but I realized "lol I can't feel my legs" and figured running when you can't feel your legs probably isn't safe.

God, as soon as I stopped I felt like crying. I can't even express how emotional I was. The fact that I did it, I ran the whole 6.2 miles, that I never lost my pace, that I blew away my old 5k record, that I got a nuts new 10k record...man. oh man. My heart was doing a bunch of nuts stuff.

Looking back on my watch I really can't believe it. But I remember everytime I'd look up at the pace clock on the wall and I know I was definitely running faster than a 8:30 pace for most of the time...

man. that was great. I'm so fucking hooked.

laps:

1 - 8:34 - 8:34

2 - 7:39 - 16:13

3 - 8:44 - 24:58

3.1 - 25:53ish

4 - 7:50 - 33:44

5 - 7:35 - 41:19

6 - 8:52 - 50:12

6.25 - 1:57 - 52:09

i had my normal breakfast this morning, then just drank coffee throughout the day, didn't eat anything. then ran around 4pm. Guess I'll have to do things like that from now on!...

(old note: Here's hoping this goes better than the mock 5k a few weeks back! I'll try an 8:30/mi pace and see how that does me...)
