Perfectt conditions for a solid 20+ miler this morning. Huge turnout with TTC today w/multiple of us needing 20's weeks b4 Columbus and others starting hittiing the 20's for Marshall marathon. I started off at a faster than normal but yet controlled pace w/it being a balmy 45 degrees at the start and the effort was very comfortable for the first 3 or 4 miles to get the body warm and loosened up. I settled right in between the A group and B group runners at the beginning and b4 i noticed i was right up w/the faster guys and feeling good too. I had talked to Glenn earlier this week about how fast he was running his 20's and he said 8:10 to 8:15 pace which was a manageable effort for me for my 20's if the conditions were good and today they were. His GPS much have been different than mine because he said his fastest mile would'nt b faster than 8 min pace but mine was well under 8 so i let him go and stay a few seconds in front of me for most of the blvd across the bridge and into KC but he was gaining any ground on me and i kept closing a little of the gap up in KC until right up b4 reaching the water stop just shy of 7.5 mark where he was about 2 to 3 seconds in front of me. I had took a little gel prior to that point and needed the water, then Marshall, Nick, Jason, Glenn and myself headed on up MacCorkle Ave to around Kmart to pickup Chesterfield where we all ran together for maybe a mile or so then they picked up the pace other than Glen and me so we both let them go and decided to keep it at that 8 min pace and change for the remainder of the run then we both starting running together from around the 9 or 10 mile point or so then we both wanted to go to UC to where their was more water to wash gels down with and to get right at the 14 mile mark b4 heading back to Drug Emporium so we would have the 20 at the cars the pace was easy and conversational from 12 miles on. At 14 we took the gels used the restroom and took water then started back to the cars. Other than my joints hurting at times particular the hips i was feeling pretty good for that point in the run and we both were surprised to b running that good the day after a hard 10k then Glen told me about doing just that back in the TTC haydays. On the way back we eased back into the run heading down to and across the bridge then on the blvd the pace quickened back to the low 8 min pace again then i started feeling better and we dropped it down to 7:50 at around the 17 mile mark and just cruised in for the 19th and 20 mile. I definitely needed this kind of a solid but still easy effort at this point in the training. The overall pace was just over 8 min pace(8:02 i think) and it was'nt a race pace effort but i could have cranked out at least 22 to 23 miles if i had to today at close to that same effort on pretty tired legs from this weeks training and yesterday's race. Splits for the run:8:14,8:10,8:02,8:00,7:55,7:52,7:54,7:44,7;49,7:56,8:00,8:02,8:02,7:57,8:09,8:18, 8:05,7:50, 8:07,8:15, and 2:01 for last .25(8:04 pace).

Fantastic run Shane!!! That's gotta be your best long run in a while, great for the confidence going into Cbus! Great week, too!!

Looks like you came off the hard 10K effort with a strong LR! BQ isn't out of the question in Cbus, you can get it done!!

Thanks Marshall and Jason. Marshall it had been the spring of 2009 since my last 20 miler going into Nashville Marathon. So yeah i forgot how bad the 20's hurt when the body is not used to them. This run was a perfect timed confidence booster. Jason i appreciate the props but i just don't think i can maintain at least a 7:25 pace for a sub 3:15 marathon and I really need to have a 3:05 to 3:09 marathon to have a shot at getting registered for the 2014 Boston. I am training as hard as i can to...

as hard as i can to run the fastest marathon i can at Columbus, but rest assured that if i don't get it at Columbus, then the training will go up a notch for a spring marathon to get the 3:05 to 3:09 marathon.
