Notes

I went into this race pretty much wanting a solid effort for a 5k to plug into marathonguide.com or mcmillan running calculator to get an equivalent predicted result for an idea of where i am at for the marathon. At the end it was pretty much where i figured i would b close to(a 3:25:53 marathon-7:51 pace) This race was a classic course which helped me to know what to expect. There was not a huge crowd some i may have been able to run a little faster if i had someone to push me on the 3rd mile. This course allows u to go out fast but u don't want to go out too fast on the downhill bcause the initial downhill is the same final uphill grade for the last .25 mile or so. I may have went out just a little too hard for the 1st mile, but if so not more than 5 to 10 seconds at the most. The course is an out and back-downhill for most of the out part then turn around at 1.55 or so then the gradual incline back up to the start. Splits for the race:6:32,7:03,7:07, and 33.89 for the last .09(6:25 pace). I ended up 3rd place overall, but like i said there were not very man runners there. 1st in the 30 to 39 age group(won a pumpkin that Caleb really likes) and a gift prize of a nice recipe cookbook. I only lost to Glen Baldwin and one of the Cross Country girls at GW won the race in 19:25. Glen was just under 20 minutes, and i beat the 4th place guy by 40 seconds or so. The weather was cold windy and rainy throughout but during the race it felt fairly good as long as you kept the foot on the pedal, but when i let the foot off the accelerator on the way back then the elements were not very comfortable. Very pleased with this hard effort which was around 20 seconds or so faster than the 5k championship in June or July with very little heavy speedwork sessions geared towards 5k's .
