Absolute disaster. It was pretty hot today (it got up to 91), but the morning temperature wasn't terrible. I started out at about 6:50 pace, which was all right, but I knew a mile in that something wasn't going right. I had a weird level of nausea and my legs felt strangely heavy. My next two miles were 6:35 and 6:42, but it was after that 3rd mile that I realized I was going to have to back off. The nausea was worse and my legs were getting heavier and heavier.

I backed off to 7:03 for mile 4, but it just kept dropping. 7:40, 8:03, 8:15, 8:47, until I finally stopped. Ellen had caught me after the turnaround and basically made me stop. I couldn't see myself, but she said I was totally gray and looked awful. As soon as I stopped, it became apparent that something was way wrong. I felt absolutely horrible. We walked back to the start, went out for breakfast, and then went home.

Turns out, this was a kidney stone weekend. The nausea was probably from that, and the night after running I woke up at 4am with that familiar kidney stone pressure. It's satisfying that my fitness wasn't just absolute garbage, but I'm disappointed I didn't get to finish this one. I'll have to see if I can find another race or two through the summer, and maybe try a fall half marathon.
