New Bedford Half Marathon! I don't really consider this a fast time, but I'm very pleased regardless. I went in with the goal of going under 1:30, so this is a great result. I knew 1:30 was very reasonable, but I didn't expect to go so far under.

I tried to start conservatively, but ended up doing my first mile around 6:35. I backed off for a couple miles and stayed closer to 6:50, but from mile 5 onward I just started rolling out 6:30s and faster. The weather was great; I was able to go shorts and singlet and never really overheated at all. The final hill was a killer and really took a toll on my pace, but I still kept myself from blowing up completely and stayed under 7:00.

The best part of this run was how well I kept myself together. I normally blow up in the last couple miles and drag myself home, but I paced really well today and passed so many people from mile 5 through 13. In fact, after mile 4 I was not passed by anyone at all. Very encouraging race today, and I definitely think with a couple months of good training I'll be well poised to go under 3:00 at Vermont City. I'm really thrilled to be getting back to shape!
