Notes

I knew going in that I might not be ready to race. And this turned out to be true, physically, emotionally and mentally. Physically I haven't been right yet from the marathon, so today was always going to be a question mark. Emotionally and mentally I really wasn't geared up for this. Part of this is due to how my body is coping right now and I'm been putting my energies into work. So that being said I decided to race anyhow and who knows perhaps I might have a good race?

Weather was a bit warm and humid to my liking, but not too much of a factor. First mile at 6:10 (some downhill) but I didn't feel right. I tried to keep it going, but by 3 miles (19:00 min - 6:20 pace.) my body wasn't cooperating. Leg felt trashed and tired. At 3 miles, I slowed down and good thing because by mile 5, all my leg issues (back, butt, hammy, groin) were screaming for attention.

At 4 miles I jogged back to find Susan. I thought it might be good for her to have someone run her in. I found out Susan likes to run alone, so I dropped back about 200 meters. I slowly caught up to Susan (which wasn't easy because of how I was feeling and she was moving at a good pace), and we did run the final stretch on the track together. They changed the course. I love how it now finishes on a track. I need to come back here and race this properly.

Reno wasn't feeling good, but he gutted it out and ran a very good race considering he felt off.

I'm not really disappointed in my race today because I had no expectations. However I did learn something very valuable... never race again unless I feel ready, physically, emotionally and mentally.
