Notes
This was my redemption race. Last year at this race, I blew out my hamstring and had to drop out a mile 1 and it ruined my whole year. The hammy is about 90% now. I have been able to finally to do some quality workouts the past few months, so I am slowly getting back in shape.
It was hot and windy. My goal was to run 32:30, but with the heat, I knew it would be tough. The key was to not go out too fast and die.
I had a bad start, got boxed in and after about 40 seconds, I was only running 7:33 pace. I basically spotted Sandy a 30 yard lead.I was finally able to get running room at .75 and maintained about 12 seconds behind Sandy up to mile 3.
By mile 4, I closed to 7 And with 400 to go, pulled even and out-kicked him for the age division win. Sandy has been beating me by about a minute in races since my knee surgery. It's great to get back to his level again.
I expect us to have some fun competition this year. :-)
The hamstring did tighten a bit when I kicked, but so much better than the park run when it really hurt afterwards.
A great start to the year!
Splits: 6:20, 6:40, 6:44, 6:29, 6:16.
