I had 2 goals...
1. Sub 1:12, which would get me the final race I need for the Gold Standard.
2. Sub 1:10.
I felt good early on. At half way I was 34:16, so I knew I would achieve my goals. However, I struggled from mile 7.5 to 9.5 on the hillier sections and dropped off the pace to 7:15. I was hoping to run sub 7:00 for each mile. I just manages to sneak under 70 minutes with 1:09:56.
I think the lack of hill training showed up in this race. The effort was there, but I struggled to maintain pace.
At 5 miles I was 45 seconds behind my 2016 split. That should have put me about 1:30 slower at the end. I was 2:36 slower, so not a good 2nd half of the race.
