Notes
My impulse to race today was prophetic because I had a great run. 35 seconds faster than my previous best Senior 5 miler! This course was easier, (pancake flat) but it was very humid. I pulled away from a group of 5 at mile one and by the third mile I was all alone. I thought I was slowing down at miles 3 and 4, but I was surprised that I maintained pace. Last mile was the fastest. If I had someone to chase and a less humid day, I feel I would have had a shot at breaking 30 minutes. This can a very windy place to run, but today wasn't too bad. Actually I loved the headwind when we had it because it helped cool me off.
To run only one second per mile slower in a 5 miler than I did last week at a 5K is a great boost in confidence for me. Legs felt good, no problems at all. So now the race I planned on running, (Milton 10) for Thursday, is still on if I recover from this in time.
