Ran into the field area and DD was there waiting. Checked in at the tent and asked which heat I was in - they said 2nd. I didn't know where the start line was, and started walking toward the west side of the track, when DD caught me and pointed to the east side, where they were lining up for heat 1. Not only that, they were calling my name. Hurried into position, and got chided for not being there earlier; almost scratched, they said. Need to plan better, especially when running to the venue.
Shook hands with Lou, who I considered my main competition. No chance of catching Lyle, but hoped I could stay with Lou. At the gun I took off, and it turned out Lou never caught me. After the race, he said I was flying. I agree, I took off too fast, and by lap 2 I had visions of Lou zipping past me soon. Kept glancing back on the curves, but he wasn't there. Lap 3 was the worst, and just held on through lap 4. Hard effort, earned silver hardware.
Disappointed that this pace was slower than my road mile PR pace. Isn't the track supposed to be faster?
