Notes
Drove with DD. Got to Elmwood at 6:20 and parked on a street a block west of the main street. Walked over and around the park, with appreciation of the playground and facilities. DD wants to take the kids there sometime. Met David, Derek, Marcus (los tres amigos), Morgan, Bryce, Mike M. Lined up at 6:50, at the 9:00 pace. I held back the decision of whether to race until now, and I felt 9 was the best I could do at this temperature/humidity. That proved to be about right.
The starting chute was very narrow, like single file, so no warmup at all. Trail was pretty nice. Mostly being passed in the first half. Passed by wedding couple, and I congratulated them. They invited me to the reception afterwards. Course went off the trail onto county roads, and they were okay, until we got to Grandpa's Woods, where there was large, sharp gravel. That was unpleasant.
Second half was good. I was able to hold or pick up the pace, and was mostly passing. It was beginning to get dark by the end, and was quite dark for the people who finished after I did.
Got an excellent supper afterward - it was worth staying for. Pulled pork, cole slaw, cookies, beer.
